Full Title: Born This Way? Scientists may have found a biological basis for homosexuality. That could be bad news for gay rights.
Baby, you were born this way. As soon as Lady Gaga sang these words on her smash hit "Born This Way," they became a rallying cry for gay people around the world, an anthem for sexual minorities facing discrimination. The shiny, catchy song carries an empowering (if simple) message: Dont be ashamed about being gay, or bi, or trans, or anythingthats just how you were born. Gaga later named her anti-bullying charity after the same truism, and two filmmakers borrowed it for their documentary exposing homophobia in Africa. A popular "Born This Way" blog encourages users to submit reflections on their innate LGBTQ selves. Need a quick, pithy riposte against anti-gay bigotry? Baby, we were born this way.
But were we? Thats the foundational question behind the gay rights movementand its opponents. If gay people were truly born that way, the old canard of homosexuality as a lifestyle choice (or sexual preference) is immediately disproven. But if gay people werent born that way, if scientists were unable to find any biological basis for sexual orientation, then the Family Research Council crowd could claim vindication in its fight to label homosexuality unnatural, harmful, and against nature.
In recent years, scientists have proposed various speculative biological bases for homosexuality but never settled on an answer. As researchers draw closer to uncovering an explanation, however, a new question has arisen: What if in some cases sexuality is caused by an identifiable chemical process in the womb?SNIP
That is one implication of one of the most widely accepted hypotheses thus far proposed. And if its true, it could turn out to be a blow for the gay rights movement.

If left-wing, liberal politicians, supporters of gay rights want full gay rights simply out of camaraderie or sympathy for gays, the votes will be there.
Except for discrimination against homosexuals, death to homosexuals as called upon by the Bible, the moral issues that allow for discrimination against homosexuals needs no underlying rationale for why people are gay. The mere act is enough to create a distinction that can never be over ruled. God is not concerned about why a person is gay, there is no need to be an underlying reason for differences between gay and straight. The final word on homosexuality has been spoken by God.
Conversely, the gay agenda needs no distinction to prevent gays from being treated equally even they are different as the laws that provide equal rights to gays arises out of a liberal, left-wing agenda, mindset. And it is the growth of power and influence of the gay community that has expanded upon these rights.
What if? Then what?
It means it’s a defect and not “normal”, like they’re trying to shove down our throats.
But we knew that. It’s been theorized for years that prenatal factors may influence homosexuality. I’m not holding my breath for any causation to be proved, but if it were, then ... what? Would mothers be monitored to see if they doing whatever contributed to the causation, or would they be monitored to make sure they didn’t avoid it?
I’d guess imprinting.
The first sexual experiences can be powerful things.
I’d also guess that is why in cultures where one’s first encounter is likely to be on wedding night, with all subsequent early encounters accomplished with the same partner, the divorce rate is low, especially compared to cultures where one’s early encounters are spread across numerous partners, blurring the focus of the imprinting.
Speculation based on previous speculation.
When the first “orientation specific” abortion occurs, then there’ll be a fantastic outrage.
ThanhPhero nails it.
Well, its appropriate that they have someone in a Chicago Cubs uniform, when talking about being gay.
Oh, it probably already has, and we just don’t know it yet.
If gay people were truly born that way, the old canard of homosexuality as a lifestyle choice (or sexual preference) is immediately disproven.
No, it's not. Any disease or defect can have more than one cause or a combination of causes.
Really? The Court didn't make judgement about homosexuality, they made a judgement about the constitution.
(btw, I don't believe there is a gay gene, nor do support aborting a child for any reason other than the life of the mother)
I about said “public”, but thought that would be misinterpreted.
It would mean that homosexuals should bear all the attitudes that society directs at Down’s syndrome children.
It’s the process that happens when the fetus is 7 weeks old. THAT is when the process called wolfen begins. All fetuses up to that point are female. At that time, hormones that determine the sex of the child are released. Too much or too little and you have a problem.
Emotional trauma underlies sexual deviations from the heterosexual norm, in most cases.
Homosexuality is one of what can be several manifestations of this trauma.
To celebrate the GLBT condition is, in effect, to ignore the trauma lying underneath.
Homosexuals should be treated with sympathy and helped.
Homosexuality in the individual should be admonished and, for practical purposes, lightly tolerated.
Homosexuality as a phenomenon in society should be admonished and discouraged.
The GLBT movement to celebrate and give special political status to homosexuality and other sexual perversions should be thrown in a hole and smashed. These activists are evil.
If it is scientifically established that homosexuality is a curable birth defect, demosexuals will demand that all children be given the “defect”.
Exactly. Imprinting that can happen many many years before puberty. Maybe as an infant.
