Posted on 06/23/2013 8:31:08 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

A former National Security Agency contractor wanted by the United States for revealing highly classified surveillance programs has been allowed to leave for a "third country" because a U.S. extradition request did not fully comply with Hong Kong law, the territory's government said Sunday.

I think that paradoxically, the Moscow airport is the safest place on earth for Snowden. He could even arrange a global press conference in a waiting lounge in perfect safety. Putin is enjoying this deliciously ironic “turnabout” far to much to screw it up by grabbing Snowden. The FSB will surround him but as bodyguards to prevent possible assassination or kidnapping. He will be given the usual Russian gifts (Matrushka dolls, high-end vodka, etc) and put on the airplane.

If Putin REALLY wanted to rub it in, he’d give Snowden the famously purloined Superbowl ring.

NOBODY is enjoying this fiasco more that Vlad Putin. That old spy can’t stop grinning over this, believe me.

“With at total population of 350K Nordic types,”

Actually a large and growing population of foreigners in Iceland these days.

With all his “supposed” brilliance and all the “supposed” top legal advisors this administration couldn't get an extradition request prepared properly?!

This is the affirmative action Presidency.

In addition to having goals and a world view at odds with reality, the people running and this administering are largely unqualified, ignorant, incompetent and often just plain stupid and low functioning.

It's truly a case not being able distinguish between malicious intent combined with corruption on one hand or stupidity and incompetence on the other hand with this crew because more often than not, both pathologies go hand unhand simultaneously with them

If I were him I wouldn’t be making any stops in Moscow, to have a look-see at Putin’s Patriot ring.

” For once I’m actually rootin’ for the Russkies. “

I have found myself doing that more and more lately. I guess we have to understand that things, people, cultures, and countries can change.

Ours certainly has.

Actually, I’d make the plan to take him in Iceland rather easy. Five million dollars in any international account....if you just get him a US vessel that we will keep parked twenty miles off the coast of Iceland. I’ll advertise it on the internet and even in papers. Just grab him....get to a fishing boat, and haul out to the US vessel.

I can guarantee at least fifty Icelandic guys would readily take the deal and not think twice about it. Plus it’d attract another thousand British and French guys.

If they want to make it Venezulea....fine...I’d make the same offer and have a US naval vessel parked and ready to accept him. Being a traitor....doesn’t get any extra favors on being nice.

Snowden's safety was not my concern. It was the laptops. Putin is a thief and murderer who is not subtle. The irony is that all that hoopla over the Super Bowl ring revealed his true thuggery.

If he did lift the Super Bowl ring off Kraft in front of a onlooking world, he will not think twice about relieving Fast Eddie of the only life insurance policy that he currently has.

I don't think they want to get him. He's a good distraction from the real criminals who are happily shredding our constitution.

Nah, you know that’s simply what HK (aka China) was going to say. Translation problems, blah blah. They did what they wanted to do and simply declared that somebody else did something wrong — that’s how they do business, whether it’s another government or a guy trying to return a bad box of granite tiles.

Perhaps the single best collection of posts on any thread ever at FR. Kudos to y’all.

As for the interchange: ”For once I’m actually rootin’ for the Russkies,”
followed by, “I have found myself doing that more and more lately. I guess we have to understand that things, people, cultures, and countries can change. Ours certainly has,” . . .

I couldn’t agree more.

On one level, I could say that any enemy of the US government - who have declared me to be their enemy - is at least potentially a friend of mine, making the distinction between the US government and the American people.

OTOH, the culture itself has been so corrupted by the Communist Long March Through the Institutions that I don’t even resonate much with anybody here anymore, and it doesn’t even feel like my country.

Are the Russians or the Chinese going to treat people like you and me any worse than our own government is clearly planning to? At least the “final solution” would not have the added pain of being a betrayal by our own government.

Snowden is like a big piece of poop, and the world is rubbing it in Obama’s face...

Scary is that too many are supporting Obama on the NSA citizen spying

The foreigners are mainly Poles in eastern Iceland. Iceland tends to be tight with its immigration policies, so it is relatively homogenous

Putin has to be enjoying every moment of this fiasco. They must be breaking out the champagne in Moscow. Putin clearly harbors great disdain for the imperious Obama.

Putin has Obama under control like a dog on a leash and has all the biographical material Obama has covered up
