Federal prosecutors have filed a sealed criminal complaint against Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who leaked a trove of documents about top-secret surveillance programs, and the United States has asked Hong Kong to detain him on a provisional arrest warrant, according to U.S. officials.
Snowden was charged with espionage, theft and conversion of government property, the officials said.
The complaint was filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, a jurisdiction where Snowdens former employer, Booz Allen Hamilton, is headquartered, and a district with a long track record in prosecuting cases with national security implications.
A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment.
Snowden flew to Hong Kong last month after leaving his job at an NSA facility in Hawaii with a collection of highly classified documents that he acquired while working at the agency as a systems analyst.
The documents, some of which have been published in The Washington Post and Britains Guardian newspaper, detailed some of the most secret surveillance operations undertaken by the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as classified legal memos and court orders underpinning the programs in the United States.
The 29-year-old intelligence analyst revealed himself June 9 as the leaker in an interview with the Guardian and said he went to Hong Kong because it provided him the cultural and legal framework to allow me to work without being immediately detained.
Snowden subsequently disappeared from public view; it is thought that he is still in the Chinese territory. Hong Kong has its own legislative and legal systems but ultimately answers to Beijing, under the so-called one country, two systems arrangement.

Sounds like he’s on his way to Iceland according to new thread
Have said from beginning he was/ is CIA. Had a teacher in high school who worked for the agency. Not unusual to have a cover job The Bengauzi post was near the CIA station. Stevens iirc had CIA ties on his résumé
Snowden knew the Hong Kong CIA station was located just down the street from hotel at the embassy. If they wanted him they would have picked him up before he checked out the next day
Wouldn’t surprise me if video was recorded earlier and he was still in HI
He’z gonna suffer the consequences of outting Uncle Sugar (or whoever these people are) of violating our constitutional protections.....and continuing to do so even thought they've been caught.
He’s a moron. He could have done it a lot less obvious and with more oompf, but how he did it isn’t going to change anything except get him life in a cell the size of a closet.
Apparently you're ok with the government gaining access to your credit card records, phone calls, Internet searches, tweets, Facebook acct.
If you cannot see this as an affront to your liberty and freedom, then I submit, you are the moron.
Lets put it out in open court and see what happens.
It’s sealed, remember? State’s secrets and all that...
There is so much lying and corruption at all levels of the federal government that they have lost any legitimacy, in my opinion.
Anybody else sick of this crap?
Great link. Overlooked that one.
Thanks.
<......the programme has been disclosed ‘in documents shown’ to the Guardian ..What’s Snowden doing now... This guys on a mission of his own and he’s not acting alone by any means.
He calls their programme...” “the largest programme of suspicionless surveillance in human history”.
Snowden further states.....”It’s not just a US problem. The UK has a huge dog in this fight,”.... “They [GCHQ] are worse than the US.”
Now what was it he said about caring for the US people? Nah.....this guy is one dangerous dude... how many other documents has he shown...of all people ...the Greeny! Who is all about anti-government and himself a socialist....who has spken at Communist Meetings.
Via Russia....that should raise eyebrows...as it’s the only country that doesn’t have extradition agreements with the USA. There’s only one track he can take without landing in a country that will delay him... ...St. Petersburg.
Wonder if Putin will delay him anyway? I would in his shoes for sure!
The Russians had “The Motherland”, the Germans had”The Fatherland” and we have “The Homeland”. Not a whole lot of difference.
No charges for Fast and Furious, no guilty parties for Benghazi, no culprits for IRS intimidation and election stealing, let’s get the little guy.
A few months ago I was saying, look, this is the first administration in many moons without scandals (as recognized by the MSM!) I think I can repeat it now: in previous administrations’ scandals, there were culprits, fall guys high up, starting, in my memory, with Spiro Agnew, and here today no guilty parties, no prosecutions, everything under the Iranian rug. Only little boy Snowden gets to pay! Lois Lerner continues to collect her pay!
Yes but he hasn’t changed ANYTHING. What good did he do? He will go to jail and it will be like nothing ever happened. He’s like those monks in China who set themselves on fire. Ok, he burned himself to death. Now what? He could have done a LOT more damage if he used his head, shown evidence especially if he linked it to the twice unconstitutionally elected Kenyan communist. It baffles me why he would self destruct like that in a position like that. People in power play by silence. You can’t be loud.
Rush never made more than a pittance until he hired himself.

Bill O’Reilly has a new best seller to write now:
“CASTRATING OBAMA”
- Jesse Jackson will demand a piece of the action; especially now that Barack Hussein Obama II and his little towel boy Eric Holder are planning on sending Jesse Jackson Junior to share a lovely cell with OJ Simpson.....

At what point do the rest acknowledge we no longer have a Republic, but a police state, if not Oligarchy
