I don’t know exactly how old this treasure is, but it might fit your guidelines. It was discovered in Berlin in 1913.
Did he steal her NFL ring?

Spat between Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin over German treasure
A dispute over ancient German treasure looted by Soviet troops at the end of the Second World War has overshadowed a visit by Angela Merkel to Russia.
FTA: One of the highlights of the exhibition is a hoard of 81 ancient gold pieces including plates, rings and ornate bowls that has not been seen in public since the end of the war.
The Eberswalde Hoard, discovered during an excavation of north-east of Berlin in 1913, was removed from a museum in the German capital by Soviet troops and transported to Moscow as war booty.
Sorry. The Soviets won. It is legitimate spoils of war - and it costs me to say that for Commies!
Don’t lose a war. That simple.
Especially don't start a war, loot a hell of a lot of art treasures from your victims and then lose. It makes it very hard to play the victim card when it is so blood stained.
When does Italy get the Mona Lisa back from France?
Not that I’m any Putin fan, but looting took place on both sides. His response to Merkel should have been, “Sure. You return the Amber Room and we’ll return the Eberswalde Hoard.”
Call it reparations. This is small change of the cost to the Soviet Union for the damage done by the Germans during the invasion and occupation of the USSR.
Frau Merkel, considering what the Germans did to the Russian people between 1941 and 43, and even counting the vengeance meted out in 1945, you’ve got little or no basis for complaint. It sucks to start a war and lose.
I just checked Wikipedia (yes, I know the warnings) and it claims that Leonardo took it with him to France, willed it to his pupil and assistant Salaì who then sold it to the king of France. That looks like a clear line of ownership with no looting involved.

You can take the boy out of the KGB,but you can't take the KGB out of the boy.
Ich bin ein Purloiner
Has all the art looted by the Nazis been returned? However, not to blame Merkel for that.
The Germans did way more than their share of looting during the war.
If you ever see the movie “Come and See”, you’ll realize that the Germans got off very lightly, all things considered.
