Despite the challenges of Syria, National Security Agency leaks, sexual assaults in the ranks and the fiscal vise of sequestration, the death of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, last Sept. 11 continues to preoccupy some lawmakers. The terror attack killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Glen Doherty, Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods.
The latest example took place Wednesday before the Senate Budget Committee, generally not viewed as a center of national-security thinking. Nonetheless, if every senator sees herself or himself as a President, he or she also can pretend to be chair(wo)man of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Its the way that the lawmakers went after Army General Martin Dempsey, who actually holds that job, that is disconcerting. Theres a clear sense they dont believe him, that hes hiding something, somewhere.
Have to give Dempsey credit for not calling in artillery strikes during these two exchanges.

Kudos to Sens Johnson and Ayotte for asking the questions.
WHERE WAS OBAMA THAT NIGHT?
( I think that is the story being hidden by all these other shiny things )
By the third word of the article, “challenges”, I knew I’d need to find a barf bag. What’s the matter with those lawmakers who stay “preoccupied” with Obama’s dereliction of duty, probably being on a conference call with his Vegas ground team while the Ambassador was being dragged to his death?
Yeah, how petty it is for "some lawmakers" to persist in getting at the elusive truth as to what happened that night. Don't they know we've all moved on and there's nothing to see here?
Give Snowden immunity if he can pull up the WH/SOS / CIA emails during the time span
Yea, he twists words and their meaning in order to attempt to say the forces were NOT told to 'stand down'. Timing?! Complete dissembling.
Where is Lt. Colonel Gibson? I would love to hear his direct Congressional testimony about his perception of what happened the night of 9/11/2012 and whether he thinks they were told to "stand down". Gregory Hicks gave compelling testimony as to his perception at the time ...
Q: How did the personnel react to being told to Stand Down?
A: They were furious. I can only say
well I will quote Lt. Colonel Gibson
he said this is the first time in my career that a diplomat has more balls than somebody in the military.
Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.
I read it as Dempsey saying the forces in Tripoli were not told to ‘stand down’ they were told to guard Tripoli. These are the forces that the acting ambassador wanted to put on a plane to Benghazi - and testified as much.
These forces were as far as Benghazi is concerned told to stand down. (but were actually ordered to “stay in tripoli, and guard/do nothing”
Two different incidents. A half truth is as bad as a lie.
Dempsey is is a shame to this country and his position.
Totally agree - to claim there was no stand down (in one particular instance) when talking in general when there were effectively several stand down orders is lying.
I was just pointing out the fig leaf he was using to cover for his lying.
These dumbass admirals and generals sit around and tell each other, “If we say anything, the Democrats will cut our budget!” Here’s a news flash for the flag officers......the Democrats will cut your budget anyway.
More correctly: He ordered them to die???
How do you arrive at that?
“WHERE WAS OBAMA THAT NIGHT?
( I think that is the story being hidden by all these other shiny things )”
what did the Ambassador’s autopsy report show? THAT’S what they’re hiding from us.
Have you read what retired four star Admiral Lyon is saying about that???
Got a link.?
EASY to find!!!
