Ellsberg: Snowden’s NSA leak more important than my Pentagon Papers
Yahoo ^

Daniel Ellsberg, whose leak of the so-called Pentagon Papers to The New York Times in 1971 exposed the secret history of the war in Vietnam, thinks Edward Snowden's leak of the National Security Agency's surveillance programs was more important than his.

"In my estimation, there has not been in American history a more important leak than Edward Snowden's release of NSA material, and that definitely includes the Pentagon Papers 40 years ago," Ellsberg wrote in an op-ed published by the Guardian on Monday. "Snowden's whistleblowing gives us the possibility to roll back a key part of what has amounted to an 'executive coup' against the U.S. constitution."

Ellsberg added on CNN Sunday night that “it can’t be overestimated to this democracy. It gives us a chance, I think, from drawing back from the total surveillance state that we could say we’re in process of becoming, I’m afraid we have become.

Government claims it has a court warrant under Fisa – but that unconstitutionally sweeping warrant is from a secret court, shielded from effective oversight, almost totally deferential to executive requests. As Russell Tice, a former National Security Agency analyst, put it: "It is a kangaroo court with a rubber stamp."

Your last sentence, particularly with regard to Rove... has me calling this guy a hero.

He is being accused of “betraying “ the Obama Administration, that is the truly telling part of this mess.

Speaking of Obama, is any of this getting under his skin or keeping him awake at night?

This man betrayed his government. Absolutely NO question about that.

However, the man is a patriot. Why? Because, he betrayed his government so as NOT to betray his country, its people, and its constitution.

The man is not only a patriot but also a hero of the highest standard. He has literally given up his life to do this.

The Taliban is working with the Pakistani Intelligence service, they already know that the phones & e-mails were tapped. This guy pointed out that the government of Obama & crony’s are conducting a 21st century domestic spying program that would give the entire EAST GERMAN STASI perpetual hard ons.

Senator Ron Wyden questions director of national intelligence James Clapper in a Senate hearing in March. Clapper has denounced revelations in the media that phone and internet records have been collected on a mass scale.

This leak of what NSA is doing calls into question the testimony given in March. Why would Wyden ask this question IF Congress was briefed on what NSA was being tasked to do? Who tasked NSA to data mine? WHO gets the data? Are we identified by our phone numbers? SS numbers? Names? Addresses?

Well, I think we know where this all heads, but the acceleration is disturbing to those of us who wished to retire whittling on our porch.

It leads eventually to the Mark of the Beast.

You will either take it,in order to exist in society, or refuse it, at peril of death.

The draw net grows closer, and incentives to voluntarily accept will be attractive. Options will eventually become mandates.

There is only One Way out of this mess.

Don’t know how soon that happens, though.

Sad part of John Roberts is that he has shown himself to be a coward as opposed to Snowden who chose to expose the traitors.

Sadly the Patriot Act from it’s inception was begging to be abused.

>If an American soldier or a civilian American gets killed because of his leak then I am not sure he is a hero”

Does the US Government have the authority to record everything said over the phone or written via the internet, without the knowledge of the citizens, Constitution be damned?

Is security, or the feeling thereof, so important that we must clamp down and remove all privacy (privacy is a basic freedom) lest one life be lost?

Sadly the Patriot Act from it’s inception was begging to be abused.

And there is no legislation that a Democrat administration will NOT abuse. Or, if they want to, ignore.

It seems as if Democrats have gotten more and more lawless with each passsing year.

Elections have consequences. And, when the voters elect an irresponsible bunch of power-mad crooks, we experience them.

Here is another thing. Snowden could have brought the CIA to it’s knees. He could have outed every agent on the planet. He chose not to. Does that sound like a traitor?

I agree, I’m struggling with this too. Just about everyone, even on these pages, is calling him a hero. Well, why didn’t he come out last year before the election? Why did he give this info to a reporter instead of to someone say like Ron Paul etc.

Maybe this helps:
