Edward Snowden: I mistakenly believed in Obama’s promises
Washington Examiner ^ | Sunday June 9, 2013

Posted on 06/09/2013 2:04:20 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

Edward Snowden, the self-revealed whistle-blower at the National Security Agency, explains that part of the reason he decided to come forward was because President Obama did not roll back the surveillance measures put into place by the Bush Administration.

“A lot of people in 2008 voted for Obama. I did not vote for him. I voted for a third party,” Snowden said in an i nterview with the Guardian. “But I believed in Obama’s promises. I was going to disclose it [but waited because of his election]. He continued with the policies of his predecessor.”

Snowden acknowledged that he watched Obama struggle as he attempted to justify the surveillance programs during his press conference on Friday.

But are they wire tapping millions of Americans or simply accessing the existing data base required to be maintained by law that reflects what number connected to what number, for how long, and when?

You did know they have to keep those records so that you the customer can be sure you are not paying for somebody else's calls.

The lease was up some time ago and Hong Kong has been part of China for quite some time now. You might have missed that.

He's in China!!!

Not to belabor the point but the guy is an admitted liar. He's busy violating his oath to not disclose these matters. Ergo, he is a liar. Once that is established there is little basis to believe anything else he might say ~ if you want to believe him, go ahead, but he's in CHINA ~ not Iceland, not somewhere else!

Snowden lied again ~ he took an oath, but he lied

If Snowden was being ordered to conduct illegal activity (violating the Fourth Amendment rights of all Americans) under the guise of national security and had no recourse from his superiors, then releasing the details was his only option, oath or not. Both soldier (e.g. My Lai) and civilian are obligated to refuse to follow illegal orders.

He's in China FUR SHUR. It is a reasonable conclusion that he's there because he intended to go there. They have some modern cities ~ he can learn a bit of Chinese ~ not difficult ~ and learn to eat Chinese food.

Anyone dig up his girlfriend who is supposedly in Hawaii?

Snowden wants you to believe he had the competency to determine that there was some violation of something ~ so where's the Constitutional lawyer he talked to?

Not that you need to be a constitutional lawyer to figure it all out, but there's the oath to consider. He had recourse ~ just quit his job and keep his mouth shut.

He said he had the abillity and access to listen to ANYONE including the President, federal judges, etc. That is hard for me to believe. I think he is punk liar who just wants attention and probably sold secrets to China.

We'll talk about that later. What I don't understand is why it's not clear to you that this guy is in China! He's not there on a vacation. In light of what has transpired just the last few days, that's gotta' be at least suspicious to any rational person.

So, let me ask you, which do you prefer ~ the Chicoms or the Fascists?

Come on, you can’t be trying to find cover for the regime and it’s overreach and abuses now can you? Why? It’s not worth it. He already has the vast majority of the MSM attempting to provide him cover 24/7.

“Woooaauuuuooooahahaha ~ mysterious music in the background on this one.”

You sir, are a drama queen. You are just arguing for the sake of argument.

“...supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” I suggest you research that clause. It isn’t random searches and seizures without probable cause. You don’t understand the law.

The NSA, Federal Government is acquiring information on private, law abiding citizens without probable cause. What part of that don’t you understand. The implications are huge and open to much abuse.

I am not going to humor you any longer by responding to your drivel. You are either playing devil’s advocate or you are complete buffoon.

As far the Boston Bombers are concerned, it doesn’t matter that one of the brothers was an American citizen. Hundreds of millions of the seized phone records, internet activity and etc gathered by the NSA is on American Citizens. The older brother’s activities should have been a big red flag and no one caught it.

In other words, this data gathering is far more nefarious than what is being revealed. The old Soviet Union would be proud....

“Has anyone started a defense fund for him? This guy deserves a medal but will probably get arrested, IF he does, I`d like to help him out.”

Have you completely lost your mind? He is doing this for money and attention, you just wait and see. He has the morals of an alley cat, if that much.

Where's the reference on that one ~ I read it but it didn't register at the time ~ but if he imagined he could listen in on the President that's where i got the idea he was hearing voices in his head.

That's symptomatic of schizophrenia.

Note, when that subject is raised we get these guys popping up 'who you say'! Interesting as all get out.

Pretty ironic that American Patriots who have exposed violations of our rights on an unprecedented scale have to escape the murderous hatred and wrath of the Regime - by going to China! World gets more upside down daily.

Nothing and I mean NOTHING will excuse anything that Obama has done or the sickening depths of the hypocrisy from what he and his party ran on and attacked the last president 24/7 for purely partisan reasons.

The proof of that? Now they are twisting into miserable pretzels trying to find cover for and justify Obama.

I’ve seen mine several times. I have also been through the metaphorical rectal exam to get a pretty high clearance, which I still have. So again what is your point?

Now you're taking words out of context and just wobbling all over the place. The 4th amendment is pretty clear ~ cop sees a crime taking place, he can take action on the spot ~ no warrant needed.

That's why it refers to UNREASONABLE.

BTW, no, I don't think you were asleep during the period when Ron Paul and others of your ilk were kvetching about tagging American citizen alqaida types out in foreign countries. That was the whole 'can Obama kill American citizens with drones' dramaturgy.

You guys are all having to backtrack on your philosophical underpinnings to deal with this one and now you are openly siding with a creep who ran off to China with NSA secrets.

Good for you. Now, did you ever stop and think that the law requires that a dossier be maintained regarding your government employment?

The law doesn't require that for the middle eastern clerks at 7/11 ~ so why do we require elaborate records be maintained on law abiding, honest government employees?

He said that in the interview video he gave to the Guardian. It has been played on Fox and CNN tonight. I’ll see if I can find a transcript.

You’re right. I never said he didn’t break the law.

Problem is I’m losing lot of faith in THE LAW.
It is a matter of trust. NSA, IRS, EPA, HHS Homeland Security, and on and on - it isn’t just data mining anymore.
It’s personal intimidation and destruction.

They are listening in and Congress will do nothing about it until an honest man like Snowden gets jury nullification.
The government is not your friend. What is the point of government protecting you when it stomps all over your Bill of Rights?

OweBowMao and Plugs disclosed information that resulted in the death of a CIA agent just for their egos. Are you saying they have more of a clue than Snowden when it comes to disclosure ? But I guess you believe they acted on principle.

Time to wake up to the kind of “protection” this government is giving you.
