Given that his grandfather, Joseph P. Kennedy, was one of the most notorious appeasers of the last century, you'd think Robert F. Kennedy Jr. might refrain from maligning anyone else as a Nazi sympathizer.
Turns out it wasn't just Grampa Joe with a soft spot for Der Fuhrer -- so did his second eldest son and future president John F. Kennedy during trips to Germany as a young man, according to a new book, "John F. Kennedy -- Among the Germans: Travel Diaries and Letters, 1937-1945." (Audio after the jump)
Excerpts from the book were published last month in the Daily Mail newspaper in Great Britain under the headline, "How JFK secretly ADMIRED Hitler: Explosive book reveals former President's praise for the Nazis as he traveled through Germany before Second World War."
Among the observations from Kennedy during his visit to German in 1937 while a student at Harvard --
Fascism? The right thing for Germany.
What are the evils of fascism compared to communism? The Nordic races certainly seem to be superior to the Romans.
Here's what Kennedy wrote about Hitler after visiting his Bavarian retreat at Berchtesgarden and a tea house built for him on a mountain --
Who has visited these two places can easily imagine how Hitler will emerge from the hatred currently surrounding him to emerge in a few years as one of the most important personalities that ever lived.
Even after the war that claimed the life of his older brother Joe, Kennedy was praising Hitler while passing through the ruins of Berlin in 1945 following the German surrender --
His boundless ambition for his country made him a threat to peace in the world, but there was something mysterious about him. He was the stuff of legends.
RFK Jr., appearing on Ed Schultz's radio show Tuesday with guest host Mike Papantonio, his law partner and co-host of the weekend radio show "Ring of Fire," rejected parallels between the Benghazi, IRS, and leak probe controversies engulfing President Obama and the Watergate scandal of four decades ago. Among the skullduggery of the Nixon White House cited by Kennedy was an alleged plot involving G. Gordon Liddy to kill columnist and longtime Nixon nemesis Jack Anderson. While describing this to Papantonio (audio), Kennedy gratuitously smeared Liddy as "an admirer of Adolf Hitler." Much like your elders, Mr. Kennedy? And just out of curiosity, did that conspiracy against Anderson involve drowning him in a car?
Kennedy's remarks came just before today's 45th anniversary of the death of his father, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, who was gunned down by an Arab radical after winning the Democratic primary in California during the 1968 campaign. Had RFK survived and gotten elected, two things one can safely assume about a second Kennedy presidency -- Watergate never happens, and South Vietnam falls to the communists in 1970 instead of 1975.
It’s a freedom is slavery scenario. Liberals attach the fascist label to people who favor liberty. We have to call them on it. We’re for freedom, they’re not. Who’s the fascist?
Why son, It's RFK, Jr.
Paging Alice! Paging Alice! Please pick up the White Rabbit. Your tea is ready!
sounds like an attempt to smear the dead Kennedy’s (and not the rock group)
The Kennedy’s, all of them eat dirt.
They all think their crap doesn’t stink.
Oh !!!they love to be philanthropists. With OUR money, while theirs is held in trust to avoid taxes.
Some people believe the family is jinxed. Personally I believe they jinx themselves with their, we are so much smarter than you attitudes.
Joseph P. Kennedy, JFK’s father, was a Nazi sympathizer. FDR called him home as ambassador to the UK.
Now Jack Anderson, he did want to take out, he considered him an enemy spy due to the classified info he was divulging in his columns that was getting good patriots killed.
Will is a great read.
Pick on a widowed, retired, 82 year old talk show host.
Keep it classy, Dems.
Possibly the most SCREWED UP FAMILY in the history of the United States portrayed to the gullible americans by the FRAUDS IN THE MSM as a model of shining armor. Sounds just like how the DEMOCRATIC PARTY is portrayed.
Bobby, stop talking about yourself.
It’s hard to take a heroin abuser seriously.
Not that they can’t reform. It’s just that in our era heroin use was the height of stupid. RFK knew that and was old enough to know better at the time.
So, there’s something broken in him someplace, as, it seems, with all the Kennedys.
WILL was a fun read for me.
