shoot to kill policy or landmines work better. more of a deterrent too.
Institute a “shoot to kill” policy AND build the fence, and it’ll be pretty damn close to being 100% effective.
We don’t need a “shoot to kill” policy, or landmines.
All we need is an actual wall. Put concertina wire on top, monitor it, and it will cut down the vast majority of border incursions.
There’s always going to be a way to get in. Right now, you can stroll across the border in the middle of the night with a gallon jug of water to get you through the next day, and you’re in. A wall starts making that harder. Women, children, the elderly - won’t be able to scale the wall so easily.
It seems curious that, before the fence, some 2,000 per month were crossing INTO Israel.
They, apparently, were not all suicide bomber types.
So, what was the draw? A better life than 7th Century neighbors? A better job. A better standard of living? Better restaurants?

But we don’t have the money. Well unless we get rid of the drone surveillance, government cameras all over the streets, stop buying up all available ammunition, hiring 17,000 IRS agents to enforce commie-care... etc etc etc.

Your title is claiming that we shouldn’t because it’s not 100% effective. Duh, and so what. Build the fence.
Maybe they should just put up a couple hundred thousand JERSEY barriers.
We have two choices. Either:
1. Militarize the US-Mexico border, which we know will never happen.
2. Enforce our existing immigration laws as pertaining to mexico, which we know will never happen.
3. Declare open seaon on all illegals crossing the border, which will be put down by the feds, because they get paid for moving mexican slaves north.
4. Weild the power of government to confound any attempts to stymie the flow of cheap exploitable labor to satisfy our lobbyist sugardaddies.
5. The people get totally pissed off at the feds, had enough of their looting and plundering, and fascist tendencies, and throw a serious beating to the illegals, their employers and enablers, the government lackeys turning a blind eye, and it just becomes a free for all sheer mayhem knock down drag out rebellion of the like’s the world has never had the displeasure to witness.
6. May the US, and the world never have to witness #5, because noboby will be safe if it comes down to that.

One word why our current socialist government will make sure our fences won’t work (or work crappy) : Unions.
a fence is a great idea! Something modest is needed to keep cattle from wandering into a dense mine field which is also covered in overlapping fields of fire from sensor activated machine guns. That is the kind of border I want with an unfriendly corrupt neighbor.
