Jumping at the Record Shop--The Slim Gaillard Trio (1945--about three dozen pop music acts are mentioned in the lyrics)
Oh...this one’s easy...
Kiss - “Beth”
Ooops...almost forgot...
Dire Straits - “Sultans of Swing” :)
Singing real good for free.
“Jazzman” by Carol King. I love that ax solo, and the lyrics are so profound: “It’s a late-night time of morning, in the darkness of his soul...”
She’s not singing about a particular person. The Jazzman is the ultimate archetype of jazz music and its power.
“Crazy Dreams” - Carrie Underwood
Hello you long shots
You dark horse runners
Hairbrush singers, dashboard drummers
Hello you wild magnolias
Just waiting to bloom
There’s a little bit of all that inside of me and you
Thank God even crazy dreams come true
I stood at the bottom of some walls I thought I couldn’t climb
I felt like Cinderella at the ball just running out of time
So I know how it feels to be afraid
Think that it’s all gonna slip away
Hold on, hold on
Here’s to you free souls, you firefly chasers
Tree climbers, porch swingers, air guitar players
Here’s to you fearless dancers, shaking walls in your bedrooms
There’s a lot of wonder left inside of me and you
Thank God even crazy dreams come true
Never let a bad day be enough
To go and talk you in to giving up
Sometimes everybody feels like you
Oh, feels like you, just like you
Yeah
I’ve met some go-getters
Some difference makers
Small town heroes, and big chance takers
I’ve met some young hearts with something to prove
Oh, yeah
Here’s to you long shots
You dark horse runners
Hairbrush singers, and dashboard drummers
Here’s to you wild magnolias
Just waiting to bloom
There’s a little bit of all that inside of me and you
Thank God even crazy dreams come true
Thank God even crazy dreams come true
Yeah
“Our Song” - Taylor Swift
I was riding shotgun
With my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
He’s got a one-hand feel
On the steering wheel
The other on my heart
I look around, turn the radio down
He says, “Baby is something wrong?”
I say, “Nothing,
I was just thinking
How we don’t have a song”
And he says...
[Chorus:]
Our song is the slamming screen door,
Sneakin’ out late, tapping on your window
When we’re on the phone and you talk real slow
‘cause it’s late and your mama don’t know
Our song is the way you laugh
The first date: “Man, I didn’t kiss her, and I should have”
And when I got home ... ‘fore I said amen
Asking God if he could play it again
I was walking up
The front porch steps
After everything that day
Had gone all wrong
And been trampled on
And lost and thrown away
Got to the hallway,
Well on my way
To my lovin’ bed
I almost didn’t notice
All the roses
And the note that said...
[Chorus:]
Our song is the slamming screen door,
Sneakin’ out late, tapping on your window
When we’re on the phone and you talk real slow
‘cause it’s late and your mama don’t know
Our song is the way you laugh
The first date: “Man, I didn’t kiss her, and I should have”
And when I got home ... ‘fore I said amen
Asking God if he could play it again
I’ve heard every album, listened to the radio
Waited for something to come along
That was as good as our song...
[Chorus:]
‘Cause our song is the slamming screen door,
Sneakin’ out late, tapping on his window
When we’re on the phone and he talks real slow
‘cause it’s late and his mama don’t know
Our song is the way he laughs
The first date: “Man, I didn’t kiss him, and I should have”
And when I got home ... ‘fore I said amen
Asking God if he could play it again
Play it again
I was riding shotgun
With my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
I grabbed a pen
And an old napkin
And I wrote down our song
Drift Off to Dream - Travis Tritt
I sit here surrounded by people and lights
Alone with my drink at the bar
You’ve been here forever, so clear in my mind
I just don’t know where you are
I know I’ll find you but girl ‘til I do
This is my love song for you
Let’s hold hands on the porch swing, under the moon
While the wind through the willows plays us a tune
We can lie on a blanket, out back in the yard
And wish for our future on a faraway star
You’ll feel the passion as time after time
I press your sweet lips to mine
Then we’ll dance to the radio, right up ‘til dawn
‘Til you drift off to dream in my arms
You might be hundreds or more miles away
Or you might be just down the street
But there’ll be a hunger deep in your eyes
That I’ll recognize when we meet
It might take hours or it might take years
But this is the song you will hear
Let’s hold hands on the porch swing, under the moon
While the wind through the willows plays us a tune
We can lie on a blanket, out back in the yard
And wish for our future on a faraway star
You’ll feel the passion as time after time
I press your sweet lips to mine
Then we’ll dance to the radio, right up ‘til dawn
‘Til you drift off to dream in my arms
“Fireflies And Songs” - Sara Groves
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2asUyUvqpE
Thirty years ago I was a little girl
riding in the back seat of the car
a woman sang you don’t bring me flowers anymore
I felt a sadness in my little heart
we’re looking for the music
in the music box
tearing it to pieces
trying to find a song
I was drawn to you in ways I can’t explain
we fought like crazy but I couldn’t stay away
piled on expectations and lots of blame
like we couldn’t do it any other way
we’re looking for a firefly
moving through the night
staring at the one place
swear it never lights
were you surprised our hearts were not like ticking clocks
with faces and hands easy to read
we both wished if only in the land of oz
longed for things we’d never really need
now we’re standing in the kitchen
all pretense is gone
you kiss me on the shoulder
fireflies and song
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
Military, our Allies, and their families.
Thank you, fatima, for preparing the Canteen
for todays activities.
WOW, looks like a busy night.
Guess I'd better hop to it
and see what kind of music we have today.
The DC Metroland weather report

Winds SSW at 10 to 15 mph.
~ Tonight... Generally clear skies.
Low 68F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Oh joy, phones are ring and people are
already stopping by.
Guess I'd better make my rounds and move on.
But, you stay right where you are.
Don't leave the room...I'll be bock!
Remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS
Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

I have a prayer request.
A great friend of mine's wife is in the hospital in Reno, Nevada. She suffered a heart attack about a week ago, but didn't exhibit any significant distress until yesterday, when Jim, my friend, was helping me and was away from their home in Susanville, CA. His daughter contacted me while Jim and I were transporting my disabled motorcycle back to my hometown. Janis, Jim's wife, had suffered a stroke many years ago. Thus, she's had health concerns for a long time.
Please place Janis, and Jim, on your prayer request line. And, if possible, ping the prayer warriors also.
Thank you,
SD

Don’t you hate songs about songs, that is about theirselves? I do. If you don’t, then explain to me this typical of this subgenre lyric from “Fire and Rain”: “I woke up this morning and I wrote down this song”. What did he write down after waking up? I read it as that he wrote down “I woke up this morning and I wrote down this song”. Does this make sense? Does “This is your song” makes sense? What exactly is “your song”, “this is”? Please help, or Help please!
