A woman handing out pizza samples at a Virginia Costco was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies Wednesday afternoon after she began acting strangely and came at the officers with a weapon, authorities said.
A sheriff's deputy also was wounded in the leg, possibly by a ricochet. He is expected to recover.
The melee began at about 3 p.m., when store employees noticed the woman acting oddly at the Costco in Sterling, Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said. Witnesses said she seemed upset about the pizza she was handing out.

Exactly. Something had to be going on in her head. Maybe the autopsy will reveal something.
There’s about 2 seconds between them.
Diabetes?
You mean the officers don’t know how to disarm a woman with a knife? They could have pepper sprayed her, or tazed her, but their choice was to shoot her and kill her. I guess it’s true, never bring a knife to a gunfight.
Next time they should disarm her of the ricochet she's carrying first.
Where did you hear that they had to be fired at twice? Worst I heard in the media was that if the shooter put his gun down and was in a crowd (probably Iraq or Sangin) they could not shoot. Any documentation? The reason I am asking is I am friends with a ROE group.
Maybe hypoglycemia?
I tried really hard not to laugh at your comment.
Was she on serotonin inhibitor drugs?
She’s dead because she attacked a pair of cops with a knife and the taser didn’t even faze her.
Some come in stealth designs.
Thanks, what a shocker for those shopping. Sad.
Eyewitness account appears to suggest excessive force:
“My wife, baby and I were in the yard section 2 aisles over from the food section where it happened. We saw about 8 cops run by, and then a manager walk right by us and not say a word! Next thing I heard was “Drop the Knife” and then 1 shot followed very quickly by about 3 or 4 more. “
The only reason to go to Costco is the free samples.
” A cop who cant disarm a woman with a knife without shooting her to death shouldnt be on the force”
This is the most sensible statement on the thread. it’s not about whether they could shoot her, it’s about whether they should have.
So you’re paying 55 bucks a year plus transportation costs to get mini free samples of grub?
They tried that, apparently it didn’t work for one reason or another. I don’t like cops on principle alone, but I don’t think they should use their body to stop crazy people with knives.
I don’t believe they are trained to do that anymore.
Not being there, I don’t know if it was necessary to shoot this woman. Presumably, several cops with night sticks should have been able to take her down without lethal force. But, the only people who would truly know are those who were there.
I think you are underestimating how dangerous a knife can be. If this is what happened, the cop had every right to shoot her dead before she got close enough to be able to do any damage, sad as it is to have to do this to someone who might not have been able to help being mad.
