The IRS has admitted targeting groups that wanted to speak on issues during the 2012 election season. But did the agency also target tax-exempt groups that opposed Administration policy priorities?
At a House oversight hearing last week, Treasury Inspector General Russell George opened the door on the possibility of more IRS political targeting. Asked by Chairman Darrell Issa whether there were other political criteria that IRS workers had been told to "be on the lookout" for, Mr. George said he could "not give you a definitive answer, sir, at this time. But I certainly will."
[snip] Asked about the slow pace of approval, the IRS auditor on the case, Diane Gentry, said the application was taking so long because auditors were supposed to give special scrutiny to groups "connected with Israel." Ms. Marcus says Ms. Gentry further explained that many applications related to Israel had to be sent to "a special unit in D.C. to determine whether the organization's activities contradict the Administration's public policies." Z Street filed suit in August 2010 in federal court in Pennsylvania alleging "viewpoint discrimination," and its case has since been moved to Washington, D.C. Ms. Gentry did not return our phone calls.

There are two nations within our borders. There is The United States of America. It follows a Constitution. Then, there is Democratland. The citizens of Democratland will do anything to loot the treasury of The United States of America. They will do anything because they are proud citizens of Democratland.
That would be the People’s Republic of Progtopia. ;)
The Conservative message was suppressed by the IRS and the general voting population thought that Obama was doing great with the War on Terror even though Al Queda (or their affiliates) had just attacked our embassy and killed a number of Americans.
The pop vote margin in favor of Obama was only 4% and the IRS was very active in Ohio, a “battleground” state with a lot of electoral votes.
Not looking for a conspiracy theory here but just the facts.
If you are not completely supportive of the administration and whatever policies and initiatives they put forward, then you are a threat to "national security".
Doesn't take a lot to move that 4% when you consider that 20% of active voter registrations in Ohio are either duplicate, outdated or outright fraudulent. Just in Ohio.
Good point. It certainly could shrink his margin down to where error and fraud have to be considered. Plus, what does the margin have to be in order to force an automatic recount? 2%? Probably oversimplifying but it has to be considered.
Don't forget Eric Holder's SUING STATES TO BLOCK their mandatory voter ID, even though the SCOTUS ruled Voter ID 'CONSTITUTIONAL' in April 2008. Eric Holder SHOULD have been FIRED just for this action alone. He clearly violated the law and abused his power, given the prior SCOTUS ruling
How many chances does this man get? Fast & Furious alone should have ended his career.
What's MORE disgusting than Holder not resigning? THAT 0BAMA HAS KEPT HIM IS MORE DISGUSTING!!!!
This criminal rejection of the Constitution and clumsy restructuring of the English language has gone on unnoticed and unchallenged.
Congress not only can, but it should narrowly define what constitutes National Security. It does not now nor ever apply to arbitrary and capricious "policies" thrown out willy-nilly by the executive of any party. And if it is attempted, it should be eliminated immediately and forcefully. If not by the elected criminals, by the people, by whatever means are necessary.
Every time these oafs spout the words "national security," I wince. To them, the words mean whatever they want it to mean, no matter how absurd or even criminal in its result. Who can challenge that? Where are the checks and balances?
Didn't we once had a Federal ombudsman who responded to the ultimate power, The People?
Whatever happened to that position?
Was it too bothersome to the elected criminals and cramped their style?
Well, its time for change, I hope permanently this time!
The time for permanent and effective leashes for the beasts is overdue. These are the times that try men's souls...
Yup. Not enough people are complaining though.
The Republic is broken if this is even possible.
The citizenry is powerless legally to challenge that abuse of power, and the body who can allows the abuse to continue with impunity.
This in itself should be a criminal act of dereliction!
Having to wait until the next elections to apply a remedy, we know from experience, is a fool's errand.
Check out this link. Many Freepers probably remember it.

REALLY BUSHS FAULT!!
From the archived web page image
Expect More.gov was an initiative of the George W. Bush administration. This website has been archived and is posted here as an historical resource. It has not been updated since the end of 2008 and links to many external websites and some internal pages will not work.
So much for Hussein transparency! This Expect More site graded All Federal Programs by department. All Thousands of them. Cant have troublemakers verify that at least half of decades-old programs got failing grades! AND WE STILL HAVE MOST OF THEM!!
Perhaps one of our patriotic White House Correspondents can ask Hussein the simple question...
WHY WAS THE WHITE HOUSE "EXPECT MORE" WEB SITE REMOVED IN LATE 2008?
This is the old 'justice.gov' website under Pres. Bush:
Eric Holder decided to obliterate the red, white and blue and go with the FUNERAL PARLOR LOOK:
Every one of the people in that "special unit" needs to go to jail.
