Bob Dole Has Some Nerve
Breitbart.com ^ | 5/27/13 | Kerry Picket

Former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 GOP Presidential nominee Bob Dole excoriated the Republican Party on Fox News Sunday, saying the Party lacked new ideas and engaged in too much obstructionist activity in the upper chamber.

"They ought to put a sign on the National Committee doors that says 'Closed for repairs,' until New Year's Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas," he said.

Additionally, Dole remarked that not only was he doubtful he could "make it" in today's Republican Party, but he believes Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon could not make it either in the current GOP, saying, "Reagan couldn't have made it. Certainly, Nixon couldn't have made it, because he had ideas. We might've made it, but I doubt it."

” So we are supposed to use you as an example Bob?
Didn’t you get your butt kicked in 1996?
Then why should we listen to you? “

It was also Dole who tried to tell Reagan that his tax cuts wouldn’t fly, the SOB!

Reagan rammed it down Dole’s throat, anyway.

Sit down, be quiet, take your Viagra, and stop helping the Democrats, Bob...

McCain is doing enough of that already,

Bob Dole was an obstructionist during his reign in the Senate.
The problem is that Dole cannot believe that a President would do what Obama is doing. He is like my MIL who said there was no way Bill Clinton would have an affair in the White House. No President would be that careless and bold. She died believing that he was innocent(the blue dress hadn’t come out when she died).

“I’m only going easy on him cause he’s a WW2 vet. ;)”

I usually do not put Bob Dole in the same vein as McCain and Romney when discussing tepid, RINO GOP POTUS nominees; his sacrifices buy him “slack” in my book anyway. McCain has pissed away any good will he had, many, many times over.

And Dole’s right to an extent, about criticizing the GOP. I’m sick of the GOP being the party of “we can’t do that”. Then why should the people give you power to do anything when you’re afraid of your own shadow? Where are the conservative/pro-American ideas and concepts that are implemented into policy? Where?

Like I’ve posted many times here in the past, as much as I HATE, HATE, HATE the Rats, I give them credit for having an orchestrated game plan for forwarding their agenda; the GOP hasn’t done sh*t since Ronald Reagan was in office.

But you gotta understand what Dole means.

Its not that they are not doing anything that bothers him,

heck I think GOP should be crafting alternative conservative bills in the House and I say so occasionally.

It irks Dole that they are not joining MCcain and Grahamnesty in supporting all those Dem Reid Senate compromise bills. that is what he would do.

He is mad that Republicans killed that UN Global disabilities rights treaty, and he thinks AWDA (ADA) was a great work and that was a global version so when he goes to France he can get handicapped stuff in the businesses.

I hear you SOL.

I think we’re in agreement: to quote you, “GOP should be crafting alternative conservative bills in the House”.

They should have been doing that in the Senate as well when they controlled that chamber.

Again, GOP = “The Stupid Party”. I read your posts, I see the results of the lack of leadership on “our” side.

In fact I have pointed out MANY times that Bohner passed the Senate tax bill and the VAWA as is largely because he couldn't get his own GOP caucus to agree on a alternative bill.

So I warn it will happen again, to those who keep posting ‘everything is fine, just go home house’.

Now in contrast Pelosi kicked butts when she ran the house, whatever she saw as the best for libs in the longer run she got it passed (for the most part)

Dole is just pulling a Powell, making trouble because of sour grapes.

I have to agree here. Bob Dole is some old establishment hack that needs to go away, but he is correct on a central point here. The GOP controls the House and they're just trying to maintain whatever they have and constantly playing defense instead of boldly crafting their own legislation and presenting an innovative new path for America and daring the Senate and President. It's one of the reasons we got a slapdown in 2012. You can't run on "Obama is bad" without offering an alternate vision for this country.

Of course, the last person to do that is some 90 year old has-been who played defense himself when he went up against in 1996 (anyone remember Clinton's slapdown "I don't question Mr. Dole's age, I question the age of his ideas") Bob Dole hasn't play offense since his "every war of the 20th century was a Democrat war" slam in 1976 when the RATs accused the GOP of being warmongers. His wife Liddy is part of the problem too. Her losing Senate race against then-unknown Kay Hagan (in a GOP friendly state!) is another example where the "electable" GOP establishment candidate snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. That race was hers to lose and she lost it. If it had been a tea party candidate, the GOP establishment would be whining about it for years, but since it was one of their candidates, all is forgotten.

In short, I don't agree with the messenger one bit, the message being presented here has a large grain of truth to it. The Congressional GOP have been pathetic opposition lately and should hang their heads in shame.

>> Nixon was a disaster so I hope he couldn't "make it" as a Republican today but the truth is he would fit right in with Bush/Romney et al. The idea that "Today's Republicans are too far to the right for Ronald Reagan" is a BS NYTimes liberal meme. In repeating it Dole has exposed himself as an utterly contemptible piece of crap, or senile or both. Too much blood flow to certain areas of the body at the expense of the brain? Old Liddy is a lucky girl. <<

One thing I've noticed of late that the two parties have in common is BOTH sides like to push some insane history revisionism that the "other party used to be honorable and patriotic" 30-40 years, but since they've since become "extreme" and bear no resemblance to their former selves. Even more ridiculous, we're supposed to believe that so-and-so iconic other party's historic figure from the 50s & 60s would be a member THEIR party now. Both sides shovel this BS and convince themselves that the history revisionism will convince modern-day members of the other party that "their party has left them", but I haven't met a single person (again, on either side), who goes "OMG you're right! The OTHER party REALLY has the values I grew up with!!" Even traitors like Specter, Chaffee, Jeffords, etc. don't cite the Dem talking that "Eisenhower was like today's Democrats" as their reason for switching.

For the RATs, they'll tell with a straight face that Republicans have gone so far to the right that Reagan wouldn't recognize them today or be allowed to be a Republican, and they'll tell you that the tea party "took over" the "once honorable, moderate" GOP, and that today's Democrats differ little from "Einsenhower era Republicans" (I'm sure Ike would have just LOVED gay marriage and socialized medicine, of course). Rachel Maddow actually claims her beliefs are like the "1950s Republican Party platform" and I know a black Dem who claims Obama is an "Einsenhower Republican" Since Ike was a squishy centrist, they'll take a handful of Ike quotes out of context to "prove" he was a "progressive"... Ike warned us about the military-industrial complex, etc. Nevermind the fact that actual 1950s liberals despised the man because he wasn't liberal enough for them.

For the GOP, you have a bunch of talking heads, and even some severely misguided freepers, who will tell with a straight face that Democrats "used to be" a good, conservative "patriotic" party 30-40 years ago (they'll cite a couple Dems that had zero chance of ever gettng the RAT nomination, like "Scoop Jackson" as proof of how "honorable" they were, and ignore the fact that that slimeball marxist LBJ was the RAT leader at the time) Then they'll add some insane BS about how JFK was "more conservative than many of today's Republicans" (yeah, Teddy's brother was downright tea party material... righttttttt) and they'll take a handful of JFK quotes out of context to "prove" he was a conservative... JFK fought communists, unlike TODAY'S Democrats, JFK cut taxes, unlike TODAY'S Democrats. They'll ignore the fact that JFK agreed with the left on everything else, of course, had the morals of a goat, and ridiculed conservatives at the time.

Again, neither side wins over ANY converts with "Ike was like today's Dems" / "JFK was like today's GOP" lies, but they continue to attempt this pursue this idiotic tactic anyway. Well, I guess the lefties convinced Bob Dole (haven't found any Dem who buys the "JFK would be a Republican today" BS, though) Alright Dems! You convinced a 90 year old senile old coot. 1 Republican down, only 50 million to go!

was against Reagan’s tax cuts

Dole helped get them through Congress.

The guy does not even understand “Supply Side Economics” so you can’t even argue the point with him.

I guess so. But somebody like Dole is good to have around when Republicans start saying "deficits don't matter."

Dole was one of the worst candidates for President in my life time.
Reagan would not only thrive in today's world he would bury Obama in any debate.
Poor Dole is so out of touch with today's politics, I saw part of that interview and it was painful to watch.
The absolute joke is that he says he is a mainstream Conservative. Nothing could be further from the truth he is and always will be a First Class RINO that tried to derail Reagan and his ideas constantly. The Ultimate D.C. Insider who should have gone back to Kansas 40 years ago.
