Shares have increased by 95% in the last year and are up more than 70% already in 2013. That makes Cabelas stock the best-performing in the firearms industry and one of the top-performing stocks in the U.S. in the last year. The companys two biggest shareholders, founders Richard and James Cabela, have seen the value of their combined 25% stake jump to $1.2 billion from $750 million at the start of 2013.
About one-third of Cabelas $3.1 billion in sales last year came from firearms, ammunition and accessories, and a substantial amount of its all-important sales growth came from its gun business. Cabelas first-quarter 2013 same-store sales growth was 24%, but it was only 9% excluding firearms and ammunition. The company set a new record for first-quarter revenue, which increased 28.7% to $802.5 million.

My favorite store. Better than Bass Pro or Gander Mountain. Depending on need it is either there , Academy, or my local bow/gun shop.
I will just go to Mill’s Fleet Farm - “The man’s mall” “If we do not have it you just do not need it.” The only problem with Cabela’s and Mills Fleet Farm they are both a distance away. Cabela’s is in Richfield, Wisconsin and the nearest Mills Fleet Farm is in Antigo, Wisconsin.
When I die my kids have instructions to stuff me and put me on display at Cabelas.
They have a bear pawing a hornet’s nest at my nearest Cabela’s and at the bottom of the mountain they have a large fish pond.
Yeah, I didn’t know what it had in its mouth.
They always have such an impressive amount of mounts. I wonder if someone at the store has an accurate count of home many they have in every store.
In Wheeling, WV where I took those, that is just the centerpiece 30 ft. mountain. There is another room (12,00 sq. ft) that’s a trophy deer museum loaded with dioramas and head mounts and a separate African diorama room. Of course there is the trout pond sunk into the main floor and another room with a 55,000 gal. aquarium (plus some smaller ones IIRC)
(couldn’t find anything on the number of mounts)
- - - -it’s a GREAT store BUT guess what their shelves are void of ammo- - - for months. NONE, ZIP, NADA!!!!!!!
I met both brothers back in the 80’s when they were opening their 2nd store in Kearney, Nebraska. At that time they had only the one store in Sidney. They wanted some big fish tanks and we had a friend in Dallas who made acrylic tanks. Three big tanks were designed and built, using 1 1/2 inch thick acrylic. The tanks were curved with no seams. The largest tank was 2300 gallons, and the other two were each half that size. I delivered the tanks to Kearney.
After Cabela’s got them the tanks were designed inside with the same care as you see in the photos in this post and then stocked with Nebraska game fish...quite an impressive sight coming into the store.
Cabela’s growth since that time has been phenomenal, and to think this business started out with their father making fishing lures on his back porch in Sidney, a mail order business that grew into a store...and a huge success story.
At more than a 5hr. round trip, it’s not where I usually pick up my ammo. That also explains why I took my camera.
I have an idea about where a lot of those mounts come from. When Mr Ditter passes (hopefully no time soon) I am going to be looking for a place to donate a lot of mounts.
“Theyve moved a lot of their cloths production to third world countries, changed the design and fabrics and now have a terrible problem with size quality control.”
I totally agree. I loved there hammer loop work dungarees. (Roughnecks).
The last pairs I bought were terrible. Material was way too soft, sizing was incredibly tight. It’s like they sewed hammer loops on a pair of Jordache jeans.
Sent them all back and am currently looking for a new supplier.
Absolute shame.
Haha. We are going to donate a caribou mount when a family member passes.
