Just heard the local weather dude say right now the DFW area has a weak cap over it but it could break which will bring storms in here. It has gotten still outside, which I don’t like.

Storms west of Ft. Worth trying to split. One looks to head north and miss the city. The one in Brown/Commanche County looks like it will go south of metroplex.

“Looks” being the operative word, I’m no weather expert.

Reporter on the ground saying 2-3 kids that were in the school when the tornado hit talked to him afterwards. They were told to hang on to railings, etc. inside. A teacher lay on top of several kids and saved them, but teacher was seriously injured.

Just moved out to West Central Texas about 15 months ago. Kermit is out in far west Texas. Located in central West Texas. Few hours west of Fort Worth on the 20.

Moore, OK, was hit on 5/3/1999 with 302mph winds! I think that’s off the tornado CAT chart, with E6+. OMG!

There’s big wind farms out there, near Post and Snyder. Can’t imagine them taking a tornado...

You can still hear them, but can't see where you are relative to the path.

That is when lightning is your friend. Lights up the sky.

Wind has been blowing all day but suddenly it is still...not good IMHO. May mean cap is breaking over western parts of Fort Worth. the cap if it stays in place will weaken storms as they move into area.

I once worked for Severe Storms Laboratories during one thunderstorm/tornado season. One night things were really popping. I was at the Piedmont site and El Reno reported a funnel cloud. Ra-ob control radioed us and said it was coming right for us. It was dark, dark, dark. We couldn’t see a darn thing until the lighting struck. We could hear it, and it kept getting louder as it approached. I was scared. It missed us a bit to the north, but we never saw it.

Nothing like hearing an approaching tornado at night. Shivvers..

I was at work 2 miles north of the path of this tornado and was only a half of a mile from the 1999 tornado. The problem is that this happened very quickly and right as schools were letting out. Within twenty minutes of the first claps of thunder, the sirens were going off and this thing was spinning into a massive tornado. Okc has some of the most advanced weather detection systems in the world, but this thing happened so fast, people were caught off guard. We were watching people driving right into the path of tornado with no idea what was going on.

I’m afraid this one is going to be bad. I am still waiting to here from coworkers trying to get back to their homes and find out about their families.

Agreed. Grew up Arlington, and have ranch near Brownwood. I know the feeling exactly. Next warning would be the green sky...
