E.W. Jackson, a minister and attorney from Chesapeake, pulled off a stunning upset last night, topping six rivals for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
Jackson fended off a late charge by Pete Snyder, a Northern Virginia technology entrepreneur, capping an epic four-ballot battle at the Richmond Coliseum that lasted nearly 10 hours.

Accept, of course, there's not a single wit of evidence in his last 30 years or so that you can point to............
He is.
Obama did not easily win Virginia really, 50%- to 48% I believe, after beating McCain 52-47.
I'm not sure what you are suggesting is pure fantasy. I will assume that it is the concept of voting for Bishop Jackson. If you concur that at least 60% of the folks in the Coliseum has some type of relationship to Tea Parties, like myself and over 80% in my delegation - and Bishop Jackson received 58% of the vote on the last ballot, then a lot of Tea Party Patriots voted for Jackson. I know when we learned that the Middle Resolution had jumped to Pete Snyder on the last vote, most of the remaining Tea Party folks went to Jackson. This is also true when Susan dropped out and Jamie supported Pete. More Tea Party went to Jackson. Pete Snyder was not the choice of individual Tea Party folks and they weren't going to go to Snyder.
I was a Corey supporter too. I loved what he did at the end. It killed Pete.
Which delegation were you in? I was in Goochland - and per an earlier thread, we need to get Richmond area Freepers together.
Not trying to interpret that the wrong way but... what?
“BTW, Corey Stewart walked hand-in-hand with Bishop Jackson around the Coliseum...”
About E.W. Jackson (from his campaign website)
E.W. Jackson served three years and was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree(BA), Summa Cum Laude with a Phi Beta Kappa Key from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Three years later he graduated from Harvard Law School with a Juris Doctor (JD). While in law school, he was accepted into the Baptist ministry and studied theology at Harvard Divinity School.
Jackson practiced small business law for 15 years in Boston, and taught Regulatory Law as an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate level at Northeastern University in Boston. Since returning to his ancestral home of Virginia, he has also taught graduate courses in Business and Commercial Law at Strayer University in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.
In 1997, he retired from his private law practice in order to devote full time to ministry. However, he still taught law and maintained both his avid interest in and commitment to civic and political responsibility. His first book, Ten Commandments to an Extraordinary Life was published in 2008. His second book, America the Beautiful Reflections of a Patriot Descended from Slaves is scheduled for release in 2012.
Jacksons family history in Virginia dates back to the time of the Revolutionary War. According to the 1880 census, his great grandparents (Gabriel and Eliza) were a sharecropper family in Orange County, Virginia. His grandfather, Frank Jackson, moved to Richmond and then to Pennsylvania where Jackson was born.
Jackson and his wife Theodora were sent to Boston on orders from the United States Marine Corps in 1971. Motivated by their desire for an environment more compatible with their conservative and Christian values and inspired by the knowledge that it is his ancestral home, Jackson moved back to Virginia 1998.
He is the Founder of Exodus Faith Ministries, a nondenominational Christian church in Chesapeake, Virginia with a satellite in Boston, Massachusetts. On July 4, 2009, he launched S.T.A.N.D. Staying True to Americas National Destiny (www.standamerica.us), a national organization dedicated to restoring Americas founding values which were informed by the principles found within the Jewish and Christian faiths.
STAND, with Jackson as president, aided the 2012 election effort both in Virginia and nationally. Most recently, he launched Exodus Now. The Exodus project is a national effort to encourage Christians and other people of moral values within the black community to leave the current Democratic Party because its current leadership has abandoned the founding principles of this Nation.
Jacksons Youtube videos in support of that effort were played on Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Laura Ingraham and to date have over 1.5 million views online. This is a part of his ongoing project to educate citizens on how the current leadership of the Democratic Party is not representing their values and to break the cycle of electoral dependency on the Democratic Party within the Black community.
After years of political activism, E.W. Jackson was encouraged by friends and family to seek the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. In May 2011 he declared his candidacy. While unsuccessful in his bid, the campaign gave rise to a strong following which many believe will lead to his election to public office in the near future. He was also called on by the nominee and the Republican Party to help in the general election campaign.
Among his current accomplishments, Jackson chairs the historic Conservative Emergency Task Force (CETF), which held a Summit in Washington DC on March 15, 2011 bringing together Congressional Representatives including Michelle Bachman, Allen West and Senator Rand Paul, Tea Party leaders and social, economic and national security conservatives to address what Jackson calls the present national emergency.
He hosts a weekly CETF conference call to facilitate communication and cooperation among conservatives nationwide. As an outgrowth of that effort, he is one of the primary authors of the Declaration of Freedom, a statement to be signed by 56 prominent contemporary patriots (Council of 56) symbolic of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
Jackson has received numerous awards for his leadership and community service, including the Family Life Award from the African American Family Association for his pro-life advocacy; the Lead Hampton Roads Award for Excellence in Leadership; the Trustee Award from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; the Outstanding Leader Award from Lead Virginia; the Republican Party of Virginias 2010 Award for Outstanding Outreach Effort of the Year and the Character Does Count Award from The Patriot Republican Women.
He and his wife founded the annual Chesapeake MLK Leadership Breakfast which draws hundreds to celebrate the life and ideals of Dr. King. He is also the founder of Youth With a Destiny, a non-profit organization established to help youth avoid gangs, drugs and violence. He served as Chaplain for the Boston Red Sox, Boston Fire Department and the Family Foundation of Virginia.
A compelling and compassionate communicator, Jackson managed a gospel radio station for 10 years; hosted local and nation radio talk shows; and did national commentaries for a network of over 400 radio stations. He is a much sought after Public speaker in a diverse array of venues.
His articles have been published nationally and internationally. He has been a guest on FOX News The OReilly Factor, Your World With Neil Cavuto, Megyn Kellys America Live, CBN World News, ABCs Good Morning America, ABCs Politically Incorrect, Hardball, C-Spans Washington Journal, ABC Radio Network, National Public Radio, Virginia Public Radio in Richmond and Tony Macrinis radio show in Hampton Roads and many other media outlets. His work has been reported by the Washington Examiner, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Mother Jones Magazine, World Magazine and other publications.
In recognition of his national ministry leadership, E.W. Jackson was consecrated a Bishop in 1998. He and his wife, Theodora, have been married for forty-one years, have three children and reside in Chesapeake, Virginia.
As mentioned in this thread, he is a brilliant speaker but doesn't have a good machine or political background. He will need a lot of help - but the Cooch machine and Mark's campaign staff should help him.
It was a dramatic event to see Chairman of the Prince William Board of Supervisors Corey Stewart come to the floor and raise Bishop Jackson's hand as in a show of victory like in a boxing match. That was just after Pete Snyder's people had signs and flyers stating the Corey Stewart had endorsed Pete Snyder.
Those "Conservatives" sat home last November and allowed Obama to be reelected. History shows they do that over and over again, expecting a different result.
It would also depend on how long ago he got the training. Some of these liberal schools weren’t always that way in those departments. If he got it decades ago, I wouldn’t be too concerned with it.
Yes, to worry about this is absurd - unless and until he starts spouting Ivy League bullsh-t - which apparently he never does - judging by what Virginians say about him.
Well, as I said in #61 it looks like he got out untainted...
from all the very informative comments—and that is REMARKABLE, considering the “education” he received and what he had to regurgitate in order to get his degree. Makes me think this man really knows the Lord and is growing in His faith.
#61 s/b #56
I hope he does know the Lord and I hope he is growing in his faith....but for the job he’s applying for now, I am far more concerned about the same qualities concerning the Constitution - which he has made abundantly clear over an entire career apparently.
I worked as an election official in November ‘12. Amazing how many (totally clueless) voters volunteered that they had not voted since ‘08. Now the D organization with tons of McAuliffe $$$ may work to get those folks out in ‘13, but most seemed uninclined to vote except for Barack. They gonna go out and vote for a rich white guy?
I’ve been saying since ‘08 that Obama did not carry VA or at least VA voters, that they’d done a masterful job of registering students, ESPECIALLY those from solidly blue states that didn’t need their votes. For whatever reason (maybe even ‘better education’) folks from NY/NJ/NE like to send their kids to VA and NC for college.
Can only pray that he did indeed get out untainted. I have read many, many articles regarding the apostate training going on these days in the seminaries. Our pastor even speaks of the “training” that is going on. That way too many are coming out of school with leftist leanings, unBibical views, apostate beliefs, that all religions “gods” are the same and lead to heaven. You know what I mean. You have probably heard it all also. When we moved back here to Alabama from WA state and were looking for a church home, we encountered some of these “young” and new pastors. They are left leaning and that is scary. Sadly, our pastor is battling lung cancer and we are praying that the Good Lord will grant our prayers and heal him. We are afraid that if we lose him, we may encounter these types as potential replacement candidates and that will not go down at our church. So, we pray hard for our pastor’s health. He is only 61 and has many many more year left to preach God’s word. We pray for it.
Christians live in the world. You seem to think Christians should be separated, or maybe isolated, from service to country or other arenas of life.
True Christians who are growing in their faith have something that people of the world lack—God’s wisdom, not the wisdom of man. It can be found in God’s book, the Bible, and it is given by God Himself to those who repent from their sins and believe in Christ for the forgiveness of them. He also tells believers to ask for it. If the man is growing in His faith, he is obedient to God, and he is growing in the wisdom of God.
That’s the kind of man/woman I want leading my country.
