The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
I would vote for this guy!
Reid is tearing Miller’s ass!
Jail these GD liars...
This is pathetic!
Finally! Go Reed..
Called out Miller for being here today on taxpayer dime..
Wonder what the political leanings are of the people perpetuating this abuse? Heavy sarcasm....
Like this line of questioning, but I wish someone would cut to the heart of it and either ask or acquire information and put in the record as to what these witnesses’ party affiliation is, and what political donations they’ve personally made.
Fortunately we’re just over the river in another sane state. So far, anyway.
Reed is SHARP. Drawing blood with almost every question...
Miller: Uh...
Love it.
Wow! Tom Reed ROCKS! He is seriously not taking “I don’t know “ for an answer!
Yes, “what news media is his source?” lol American Dummies that voted for a President who knows nothing and has to be informed what HIS appointies are saying and doing by the “news”. The MSM would have had a filed day if this was Bush saying he knew nothing. All we’d hear about 24/7 is how stupid he is.
Looks like the Dems on the committee cut and run. LOL.
Todd Young up... R-Indiana.
Miller floundering on the IG report numbers of targeted groups.
Oh...jail is coming...it is coming.
So is impeachment by the time it is over and the dems will have no choice but to jump on board in effort to save their party.
You heard it here first.
It might take many months to unfold.....but it will happen.
Young has done his homework!
Bump.
Miller is stone faced arrogant biggov liar...
I can’t believe the answers to all these questions..
These people are *clearly* deceitful liars.
From 1500 to 3500 applications was the increase? And the vastness of the IRS couldn’t handle that? The small business I retired from had two women that handled 3500 jobs a month and all the paperwork attached to each...I’m scratching my head as to why their petticoats flew up at just a 2000 application issue? Sloth as well as abuse... $92 million in bonuses to IRS employees is vastly undeserved.
Todd’s our guy. Wish I could listen
The best questioning is coming from the most junior GOP members. They did their homework. I await Kelly to add the passion and anger when he is up next.
I think the Dems would rather escalate the death of this Country first. I hope there might be some that would put this Country’s future first, but I don’t hold out hope.
