The House Ways and Means Committee holds the first Congressional hearing on the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) subjecting applicants for tax-exempt status to higher levels of scrutiny based on political leanings.
Witnesses include Acting IRS Commissioner Steve Miller who resigned on Wednesday and the Treasury Departments Inspector General Russell George for Tax Administration.
Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said the IRS' targeting of "American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling." He stated that the Committee will "get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again.
In announcing the hearing, Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) said that it is "essential that there be a thorough and bipartisan investigation and effective remedial action.
Since June 2011, the Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating whether the Internal Revenue Service discriminated against taxpayers based on political opinions.
Yep, that’s what they’re trying to make us believe — obama knows nothing...the meme being that obama is detached - but it’s okay because it’s due to his nature — his carefree personality / disposition.
Geraldo the Tool was out there pushing that early this morning saying obama’s been playing golf too much and maybe should have been paying more attention to events.
The last five minutes were awesome. The representative from Washington refused to let Miller off the hook. Miller has been shown for all the world to see what he is...a hack.
Whoo Hoo! Go Cong Reichert - he’s my congress critter. He was the Sheriff that got the Green River murderer.
I wish someone would ask Miller why Obummer’s brother’s org got their application processed in something like 30 days and it was retroactive for 2 years, when the conservative & pro-Israel group’s applications took 2-3 years.
I loved it. Finally someone who isn’t going to take Millers nonsense.
He kind of looks like Ralph Nader.
I 2nd the motion for Articles of Impeachment against the President of the United States of America for high crimes and misdemeanors.
I would love to know what firm or whether they came out of wH counsel office.
For very senior civil servant, there are five lawyers in DC....CYA mentality.
I believe this hearing was already scheduled before the IRS scandal broke. So maybe the GOP is just using this as an initial sparring round, and the real preparations are going on for next week's hearings and the ones to follow.
Ditto here. The dems aren't remotely interested at getting to the truth.
I would also like to know what firm they are from.
Leftists 'are' what they are; no question; no doubt. They reek. . .and Miller typifies his ilk.
So then why tip their hand?
And the Dems are blaming the Citizens United decision, Bush, and the failure to have better guidelines--a fault of Congress.
Added note:
Politicians and Police know when questioned that how a question is frammed makes a difference if they’re going to give the answer sought...and they are trained to recognize how to dodge.
Officer friend of mine said too often the wrong question is asked so they can easily dodge answering even if they have the right answer.
Who was the name he gave. Nancy something? Let’s get her info quick.
Is that Dave Reichert of WA? If so, he is an Ex-COP.
Have they tipped their hand? Doesn’t sound to me like they’ve done much of anything this morning.
Lawyers hired from the very top.
