Army forsakes combat hero for Muslims

The U.S. Army has further punished a highly respected and decorated officer in the wake of Muslim groups complaining about the approved course he taught on radical Islam at National Defense University.

In October, WND reported Lt. Col. Matthew Dooley was fired from his position at the school for the way he conducted a class on how to respond to a variety of scenarios instigated by radical Muslims. A visitor to the class found the discussions offensive to Muslims and informed some 57 Islamic organizations, which then complained to Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In addition to the firing, Gen. Dempsey promptly orchestrated a negative Officer Evaluation Report against Dooley that deeply tarnished a career that had received only sterling reviews from West Point through nearly 20 years in the service. Dempsey never discussed the incident with Dooley.

On Sunday, the Washington Times reported Dooley has been punished again, this time as he pursued the role of battalion commander. According to the Times, an Army command selection board studied Dooley’s record and candidacy for a command assignment. The five-member panel agreed to keep Dooley under consideration. Shortly thereafter, Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, who at the time was Army vice chief and subsequently became head of U.S. Central Command, overruled the board in a brief memo. His actions could effectively spell the end of Dooley’s career.

“There was no reason given, and that’s also a very disturbing aspect of it,” said Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center, who is representing Dooley in his original appeal of his firing and negative review. “The way they’re treating him now is not only a total .....”

Add my name to those who would have stood with you in that theater the day you said a fervent Muslim in the ranks preaching Islam & death to “infidels” constituted a threat.

We’ve already got one of those - Nidal Hasan who I would love to have dissed in person before I retired (that would have been worth a court-martial!). Look how he is coddled (yes, that’s the term) because of his religion and unlikely to ever face justice.

I hate affirmative action promotions. I remember sitting on retention boards that almost always added imaginary points to a soldiers record.

One board member would "know" the person and would make comments like "Well, he / she is an upcoming minority in the ranks".

Since I was the senior SGM in Texas, I asked one "WTF difference does a person's race have to do with qualifications"? Never got an answer.

I dug a little into Austin’s career track.

West Point Class of ‘75 (tell me that’s not AA). Company-grade during the Carter years and the Hollow Army. After a brief time as platoon leader, he began a series of staff assignments and recruiter gigs that allowed him to pad his resume.

Recruiter command. TAC officer at the Academy. Staff and school during Desert Storm. By the time of the RIF in 1989-90, his resume was bulletproof: his commissioning source alone (USMA) insulated him from the cuts.

One BN command tour, then more staff and school, then sleeping by the flagpole for joint staff.

Agreed!!! I hate affirmative action promotions in any field but Military promotions should be merit only. Any Military man/woman worth his/her salt should be able to see what "O" and his admin are doing and if they can not stand up and honor their oath of supporting and defending the Constitution and the people they serve, then step the f^c% down, you do not belong there!!!!
