President Barack Obama cited in his address to the people of Mexico on Friday a deceased Mexican writer who wrote that the United States was the protector of tyrants, condemned North American imperialism and expressed sympathy with an anti-American regime.
Obama repeatedly referenced Nobel Prize-winning Mexican writer Octavio Paz (1914-1998) in his speech Friday at the Anthropology Museum in Mexico City, which he visited on the second day of a three-day tour of Mexico and Costa Rica.
In modern times, Mexicos blend of cultures and traditions found its expression in the murals of Rivera and the paintings of Frida, and the poetry of Sor Juana and the essays of Octavio Paz, Obama said.
And Paz once spoke words that capture the spirit of our gathering here today in this place that celebrates your past, but which this morning is filled with so many young people who will shape Mexicos future. Octavio Paz said, Modernity is not outside us, it is within us. It is today and the most ancient antiquity; it is tomorrow and the beginning of the world; it is a thousand years old and yet newborn, Obama said.
And thats why I wanted this opportunity to speak with all of you today, because you live at the intersection of history that Octavio Paz was referring to, Obama said.
Octavio Paz called the United States the protector of tyrants in his 1982 essay, Latin America and Democracy.
The United States has been one of the principal obstacles we have encountered in our efforts to modernize ourselves, Paz wrote in his essay. In Latin America, the United States has been the protector of tyrants and the ally of the enemies of democracy.
Paz also noted in his essay that he understood the anti-Americanism of the Nicaraguan government at that time.
Paz wrote in a 1987 essay for his literary magazine Vuelta that his pro-democracy viewpoints should not be confused with the defense of North American imperialism, nor with that of Latin Americas conservative military regimes.
Sic Semper Tyranus!
A goodly part of the United States today is protecting a tyrant. Those who will not or cannot objectively look upon the Current Occupant of the White Hut, are actively engaged in protecting just such a tyrant.
“My way or the highway” is not a choice, if there is no highway available on which to escape.
The United States mainstream media, protector of a tyrant.
Obama is bad mouthing America in a foreign country , inviting mexicans to invade the U,S,A and the news media is silent on this
“Obama and democrats hate Americans, they hate America and our freedoms”
Now that’s funny, what freedoms do we still have?
Right to my earnings, right to not have my money used to murder children or to support crooks.
Sometimes “protecting tyrants” is the right play. Mubarak and the Shah of Iran come to mind.
He doesn’t write his own speeches does he.
Yes, the shah fell, and Iran is now a great country in western democratic fashion?
And the students left the wuns speech puzzled about what country obama was painting such a rosy picture of. Hope and change blathering south of the border.

excerpt from LA times...................................
[That was] a really good speech by President Obama, but what Mexico was he talking about? said Jose Carlos Cruz, 24, a graduate student in international relations. Unfortunately in our country, the situation is terrible: Theres poverty, unemployment, and even worse, the future is anything but promising.
How could anyone from any other country like or respect a man who obviously despises and hates his own countrymen like Obama does?
As for Americans, Obama deserves to be spat upon and removed from office.
this ain’t apologizing.
this is making common cause with our attackers.
someone call the Palm Beach County FL sheriffs office and report obama for hating our government
We are rapidly heading into a police state where war will be inevitable. I am scared every day, not so much for myself, but for the innocent people and the children I see all around me in my environment who suffer from so many of the consequences of the overturning of our Constitution and our way of life. The America of our past will be looked upon in the future, if they do not destroy our history books, as a heaven on earth because of individual freedom. What would happen to me if I went to a neighbor's house today and began to bad mouth my family, telling them that my family is protecting tyrants and is responsible for their suffering and lack of success? I would only do that if I wanted my neighbor to help me destroy my family. It is as simple as that. How much clearer could Barack Obama make himself? However, nothing will happen in response to his folly, because this word of what he has done in Mexico can only reach the masses through word of mouth and social media even though we have Drudge, Fox and talk radio. The major news media will protect the President in this even though, in the end, they will not escape the consequences. I have thought about this a lot and I have decided that the media is made up of people who have personal hatreds against traditional groups of Americans whom they believe are thwarting their own desires, such as their love of abortion, anything to do with sexual freedom, their need to see gay marriage the law of the land, their hatred of those who want to own guns to protect themselves, their hatred of the family unit and the Christian religion. Really, they hate our first and second amendment rights and want those overturned, not looking back at history to see what the consequences of that kind of government is for ALL. I believe they are willing to assist in bringing about revolution to achieve the success of just a few of their pet peeves. And, they do so love to “share the power.” After our current system is destroyed, what will replace it? Well, those who caused the revolution will not be the ones to replace it. Others, most likely, very violent others will do that. Sorry to be so blunt this morning, folks, but the article this week about the Pentagon taking away the rights of Christian soldiers to express their faith to one another struck horror in my mind and, this report of our President doing what he is doing in Mexico, tacked on top of 15 year old girls, whose brains will not be fully developed until they are 21, being able to put a potentially toxic substance in their bodies over and over again, for the purpose of having sex with anyone and everyone is frightening. Tack onto these things, the so called “Dr.” who enthusiastically murders babies and the Boston bombing which is only the latest example of maiming and killing innocent people with a government which is not willing to face the full reasons for all that and you have a hell on earth. Is anyone out there really content and happy these days? Do you have hope for the future? Perhaps if you have money to escape to a small island somewhere, you are. For most of us, the future looks very much like the past..Stalin, Hitler, Mao, etc., etc. And, the 42% who do not realize that we are now under Obamacare will be very surprised that all of this is happening when it hits full force. They, most likely will blame the Republicans or the Christians or the gun owners or the anti-abortionists, all those the media will have taught them to hate. Most will not survive learning the hard way.
The only tyrants we have right now are Bronco “Bama and Big Moochie, the members of Obama’s cabinet and his Czars.
He really makes me miss Clinton A WHOLE BUNCH.
Democrat_media~:” Obama and democrats hate Americans, they hate America and our freedoms
Obama is bad mouthing America in a foreign country , inviting mexicans to invade the U,S,A and the news media is silent on this “
And blames Mexican violence on American guns ..but omits
..that His “Just-Us” Department (illegally) provided 2,000 guns to the Cartels.
The US Department of Agriculture advertises in Mexico the availability of Food entitlements.
The enemedia fails to report this systematic double-talk / double-think when he visits foreign lands.
BINGO!
No doubt Barky has the guy’s books in his study.
