Let’s face it—on nearly every important issue, from gun control to immigration to gay marriage, red states are holding America back. Lee Siegel on why the South should get the hell out of the union.
Let’s not be fooled by all the bipartisan rhetoric that has been streaming out of the GOP since Romney’s self-destruction. Hundreds of thousands of petitioners in a handful of red states still want to secede? Well, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
A solid block of Southern states continues to refuse to expand Medicaid, thus squashing one of the linchpins of the president’s health-care reform. The South will likely be the last and most stubborn battleground in the fight for gay marriage. Gun control? The more the two sides seem to get cozier with each other, the faster gun-control legislation gets watered down—and more and more red states are passing laws making it legal to carry a concealed weapon. As for immigration, the red states seem to be relaxing their anti-immigrant fervor, but nothing approaching new legislation is even on the horizon.
The sad truth is that “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” can only be achieved at this point if the nation is split in half. Far from being fanciful or fanatical, the proponents of secession have a stronger grasp of political reality than just about anyone else. In fact, there are serious reasons why the North itself should take the lead in a secessionist movement.
Just think what America would look like without its mostly Southern states. (We could retain “America”: they could call themselves “Smith & Wesson” or “Coca-Cola” or something like that.) Universal health care. No guns. Strong unions. A humane minimum wage....

if you remember I was about to move to NH but I changed my mind and came south and I now look back knowing I made the right decision.
NH is the only state ion the north east which I do like, the people are very different to the newbies from other states which surround but it is changing and like you said it will be a matter of time when it goes all blue.
Middle school actually has a place with a pool table, games, board games etc where the good kids who have good grades go to.
They actually reward the good kids and if the kids who do not work don’t like it then they are told to do well and then they can have the same.
Every 3 months the local stores and JAX Jaguars give free tickets who then go to a draw just for those kids.
Kids which do not work do not go on field trips, do not go to DC , do not get anything.

We seem to see things eye to eye Manc. I have no love of the north nor the jerks that live there. They are indeed a different country in all but name. A country I find filled with degenerate and dysfunction folks. It is my great desire to see one day the chains of union between our people and theirs broken. For the bonds of brotherhood and respect have been broken ages ago.
We have only between us a growing sense of anonymity and hate as we continue to fight over matters for which we should be separate.
If I could trust the north to keep their hands to themselves I would have no problem sharing a federal union with them. 200+ years of history shows that we can’t do that.

I think carving out a country starting at Oklahoma and then moving up through Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, on over through Wyoming, Utah, Montana and Idaho, and including Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, Yukon, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories would be a viable solution. It'd incorporate the conservative part of the U.S. and what passes for the conservative part of Canada. We'd have more than enough oil and natural gas to sustain us. The breadbasket to feed us. Natural resources to fuel our industries. No really large cities to breed crime in. Access to the sea through British Columbia. And be transportation hub to trade with however many entities the rest of the U.S. breaks up into. The Cornhuskers would have to leave the Big 10 since it'd be in another country and come back to the Big 12 where they belong. Life would be pretty good.

Oh, by the way, I think the South should stay and work to see its values become the dominant values in America. Apparently that’s what’s worrying the left.

As a people we need to stop using the word free. Nothing is ever free. They will pay thou the noses for those services and they won’t have any real choice in how they are admistered.
As for the libs in our land I think we need to keep open an exchange. Should someone love freedom in the north they should be permitted to come south, should someone love slavery in the south they should be permitted to go north.
Try northwest NC - like AVery or Watauga counties. No air conditioner required much of the time. Today I had the heater going until 1pm. At nite I use electric blanket. Now we do get more rain than u would in Raleigh. But I love the seasons. U get real feel of all the seasons. All conservatives welcomed. Be sure to bring your guns. The native folk r wonderful people. They know hard work and hard times. Their ancestors migrated here from Penn.

It’s a different country and if they just stayed up there instead of moving here I would not have a problem with them.
Sadly they don’t stay and move down here looking to change the south and other states.
Arrogant, pansy men, boyish looking women for many, even what they eat is different, how they act in their elitist way is different, it’s expensive, so many laws, they want their bicycle lanes then they take the roads up by cycling in doubles side by side , road lights, sidewalks, public transport, even what they drive with their little farty cars.
They look down on southerners, make fun of the food, guns, Bible, accent, want the confederate flag removed and never displayed, want their own history.
Personally after living north and south then I could nto careless about the north and it;s flaming liberals and if they want to leave then I will never lose any sleep over it and they can take their welfare bums who moved here and take the illegals, cross dressers and homosexuals too.
We have a family from NY who moved here a few months ago.
They don’t work, he walks about in his underwear, they rent rhe first house so everyone sees them to get in the neighborhood.
He’s so called black or so he thinks, she is white with two girls who get in trouble and can’t even say thank you or mam or sir at their school I ma told off other kids around here.
Go past their rented house and look at them and they called the cops for claiming racial because in his words he told a cop. “I’m married to a white women living in the south and I;m black”
Oh I got a call from the cops too because we looked at them as we drive by and the cop was a nice guy and told me he’s telling them to knock it off\\So far the cops have not been called in the last couple of weeks on anyone here.
Election time they had their Obama yard sign which no one took and only got it because of all signs here are Romney, they put out a black santa which I have never seen in my life

Just before the 2008 election, I was talking to a neighbor a few doors away. He said he would vote for the candidate that who gave him "free" health care. I told him that if he thought health care was expensive now, wait until it's free.
A few weeks ago, his wife was walking their dog. I asked her how Mal was doing and she said, "He is bitching about how much our health insurance premiums went up". A few days after that, he was walking the dog and I asked him "How do you like your 'free' health care now?" and he replied with a "F*** you" and kept on walking.

Theoretically, I agree. But the fact is that left-wing Progressives run everything up here, and for the moment, they've dumbed down and made dependents of the populace to the point where they'd vote for a 50 lb. sack of manure, if you slapped a "D" on it. Not that there's all that much difference.
Can Arizona be included with southern states?
