WASHINGTON, April 27 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama said Saturday Congress should replace "dumb" federal spending cuts before the so-called sequester "causes further damage."
In his weekly radio and Internet address, the president said the sequester -- a series of automatic, across-the-board federal spending cuts -- was a bad idea when Congress adopted it and "as the country saw this week, it's a bad idea now."
Obama said the cuts are affecting families whose children are being "kicked out of Head Start programs," and "seniors who depend on programs like Meals on Wheels to live independently."
"There are military communities -- families that have already sacrificed enough -- coping under new strains," he said. "All because of these cuts."
He noted furloughs of air traffic controllers resulted this week in flight delays with travelers "stuck for hours in airports and on planes, and rightly frustrated by it."
"And, maybe because they fly home each weekend, the Members of Congress who insisted these cuts take hold finally realized that they actually apply to them too," Obama said.
"Republicans claimed victory when the sequester first took effect, and now they've decided it was a bad idea all along," he said. "Well, first, they should look at their own budget. If the cuts they propose were applied across the board, the FAA would suffer cuts three times deeper."

"A couple weeks ago, I put forward a budget that replaces the next several years of these dumb cuts with smarter cuts; reforms our tax code to close wasteful special interest loopholes; and invests in things like education, research, and manufacturing that will create new jobs right now," Obama said.

Actually, this is Obama claiming that he’s smarter than others. Listen to him, he’s smart.
Say, Barry - the dumb cut was YOUR idea.
I know most people have forgotten that but I haven’t.
Dumb cuts from dumb ideas from dumb ivy leaguers . . .
Yet he was able to command all federal agencies to cut where the public would feel it most.

Not a damn thing “dumb” about nobama’s sequester cuts. Well planned to inflict pain so as we will collectively cry to the Conservatives to give us our gubmit back.
Its going to take much more than EVICTING nobama’s herd from the WhiteyHut. Once they are out it’ll require nuclear level roach fumigation and a gigantic Holmes on Homes rebuild.
This ranks right up there with the guy who killed his parents, then asked for mercy because he was an orphan.
Let’s review the bidding:
* the sequester was proposed by Obama to break the impass - GOP wanted some (smart) cuts, the Dems wanted no cuts.
* the GOP offered to pass a bill to allow Obama to move money around to make the across the board cuts into “smart cuts”, and Obama refused it.
* and NOW Obama complains that the squester cuts weren’t “smart”.
BTW - the “cuts” were not cuts — they were cuts in the rate of growth (e.g., from 6% line item growth instead of the original 8% growth), and we should be very careful to always explain the difference. Just like we should always distinguish “cutting taxes” from “cutting tax rates”, especially when cutting tax rates usually results in increasing tax revenues.
