Gun, Ammo Sales Surge After Boston Marathon Bombing

The surge in gun and ammo purchases that began after Sandy Hook and continued through the Senate's failed gun control vote appears to have picked up steam again following the Boston Marathon bombing.

For example, at the Syracuse Gun Show on the New York State Fairgrounds last weekend, so many people showed up that some had to wait in line more than two hours just to get into the gun show. Those that waited did so on a windy day, amid sleet and snow flurries.

Moreover, for this specific gun show, few people came to sell guns; most came to buy them and find the ammo they needed for their guns at home.

Try buying reloading supplies.

I’m wondering if attendance at ranges is way down. No supplies......no activity. At least that’s my theory.

My local range has been somewhat more crowded than usual. People are not blasting away to put a couple hundred rounds downrange quickly, but they are shooting - and taking it seriously. I have seen much more focused practice over the past few months than I'm used to seeing, almost as if decent Americans wanted to be ready to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

They need to back off sucking up all of “America’s Rifles - 15”,

it would be better to have 10,000 patriots with 10,000 ARs than it would 5,000 patriots with 10,000 ARs.

And that is a very good thing.

Dude... they’re called “binoculars”.
They can’t kill anyone.

This isn’t a society stocking up on certain guns because they fear they may be banned. This is a society preparing for war.

Unlocked DHS vehicles.

The current ammo bubble will depress the market for 10 years

I find that implausible. How could they surge from current levels, particularly given current supplies?

My exact thought, where did they find anything to buy? High end hunting long guns and ammo are all that is left on the shelf.

That may be true, if it is not used first.

Dude...do your “binoculars” have only one lens?

And do you hold your “binoculars” with one hand a foot behind the other?

That is a rifle being aimed at an American by a paramilitary “policeman” in a military vehicle.

My “dude” was directed at the jackball axel in the “tank” that was using his gun site instead of binoculars.

Correct, how can there be a surge of something that is non-existent?

You are optimistic, some of the manufacturers say 9 to 12 months if demand goes down to normal. Firearms, most of them are starting to get back in stock, but prices are not falling yet. Ammo, especially .22LR, is still out of stock everywhere and sells out in minutes when it comes in.

This kind of reminds me of the build up to World War One. Both sides were stockpiling arms and ammo in massive quantities and heaping propaganda and rhetoric against each other until it took just a small spark to ignite the entire powder keg. But this time it is American citizens and their own nation's government that are at odds against each other.

I wonder what the spark will be this time.

Those dealers who have not raised prices dramatically the way so many others have will get my business for years. I can find .22LR online for $0.25 to $0.50 a shot, but I'm not going to pay that. When those sites drop their prices again on these products, I will not be a customer. I'll be going with WalMart and a local gun shop that has raised their prices about 20% instead of by a factor of ten - once the gougers stop buying from them to resell at a gun show (I do not buy gun show ammo either). I'm not convinced that we will recover as quickly as a year, but I expect a price recovery, if we manage to avoid the second civil war that Obama wants so much to provoke.
