Sen. Rand Paul said Monday that the immigration reform debate should be halted until Congress first understands what went wrong in Boston, where two brothers who came to the U.S. legally under the asylum program have been accused of the deadly bombings at last weeks marathon.
The Kentucky Republican had given the immigration issue a big boost when he said earlier this year he supported taking action. But in light of last weeks bombings, Mr. Paul said things have changed.
The facts emerging in the Boston Marathon bombing have exposed a weakness in our current system. If we dont use this debate as an opportunity to fix flaws in our current system, flaws made even more evident last week, then we will not be doing our jobs, he said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. We should not proceed until we understand the specific failures of our immigration system.
Bostons effects on the immigration debate have become hotly debated since it became clear the two men suspected in the bombings were foreigners who gained entry with their family through the asylum system.
The Senates senior Democrat said Monday that calls to slow down immigration are cruel.

I agree, but that would be very un PC, and you know PC is the god all liberals worship. PC will assure many people will be killed, and I think it will get infinitely worse, before it gets better.
Paul must be inundated with disgust-filled emails and voice messages from his constituents over his flip-flop for illegal alien amnesty.
Right. I know.
It’s not a PC idea and of course there’s a certain amount of basic logic to it... soooo
It will never be considered.
How about just “Stop the immigration bill.”
Oh he’s doing the right think alright....but just not at the right time. See post#15 above.
We need badly to reform immigration and soon. Because of the Kennedy (Teddy) legacy (the 1965 Immigration Reform Act) that allowed for this insane chain immigration.
Actually Rubio and Rand have put necessary things into the current Senate Bill but they form a small contribution amid overwhelming control by Senate Democrats who would sell this country down the river.
Rubio and Rand need to hold their fire until the timing is right when THEY ARE IN CONTROL.
Rubio/Rand have the RIGHT TACTICS but the WRONG STRATEGY
In war as in most other things TIMING IS EVERYTHING.
I cannot stand with Paul, because he may change his mind next week and vote for Amnesty.
Just before the bombing he was all for it.
In the meantime we are trying to toss out a Christian german for wanting to Home school his kids.
I sure hope so and that it causes him to rethink long and hard about his initial position on it.
He might spin you again next week.
Amen to that.
>>> Stop immigration bill until we understand Boston
On this point, we need Paul, and others.
Otherwise, it is all Obama, OFA, (and others) to push for Gang of Eight.
Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LLS
freeze all immigration until the unemployment rate falls to 5%
****freeze all immigration until the unemployment rate falls to 5%****
Deport the unemployed;) That’ll do it!!!
This.
Rand and others in the Senate the best they can do is slow it down and delay it or get through committee’s in the House so we can show people how bad it is.
They already have the votes to ram this through. Don’t hate on the few good senators we have (in my opinion)
In a stunning new discovery, the Texas / Mexico border is.. wait for it.. A RIVER!
International treaties exist governing the use of this newly discovered river.
Do you propose walling the river off and gifting it to the Mexicans? That would be a "massvie" mistake.
What do you propose for the landowners all along the length of this river who depend on it for sustaining crops and livestock?
Maybe Rand is just stalling for time, waiting for public anger to cool down. It might be just a case of timing rather than his beliefs. Politicians use delaying tactics all the time.
These DC clowns think that we must be in the same dreamworld that they are in. They told us these same lies six or seven years ago, they haven’t even refreshed their old lies. It is always the same stale talking points that do not get better with age. Lies do not get better with age.
And the hispanics of this country are holding their “Republican-marked Ballots” with bated breath, waiting to see if Rubio succeeds. (not).
