Sen. Rand Paul said Monday that the immigration reform debate should be halted until Congress first understands what went wrong in Boston, where two brothers who came to the U.S. legally under the asylum program have been accused of the deadly bombings at last weeks marathon.
The Kentucky Republican had given the immigration issue a big boost when he said earlier this year he supported taking action. But in light of last weeks bombings, Mr. Paul said things have changed.
The facts emerging in the Boston Marathon bombing have exposed a weakness in our current system. If we dont use this debate as an opportunity to fix flaws in our current system, flaws made even more evident last week, then we will not be doing our jobs, he said in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. We should not proceed until we understand the specific failures of our immigration system.
Bostons effects on the immigration debate have become hotly debated since it became clear the two men suspected in the bombings were foreigners who gained entry with their family through the asylum system.
The Senates senior Democrat said Monday that calls to slow down immigration are cruel.

At the miminum, why doesnt the US declare a moratorium on immigration from ANY part of the world where terrorism is in force or tolerated?
Maybe we should END immigration for them until/unless their governments work with the civilized world and abandon their commitment to violence and hatred.
Or we do just as Israel has done, BUILD a massvie wall!
Yeah....I say table the discussion until the US Government starts deporting all the illegals that states have tried to hand over to them. Table it until the Border Patrol agents can carry real ammunition. Table it until they build some real effing insurmountable fences. Table it until they scrub the friggin welfare rolls for people who can’t prove they are a citizen....all that jazz. Table it until the Rapture.
And who else stands with Paul?
We NEED to know, stat.
Absolutely, it’s just common sense which is something most elected people in D.C. lack.
Bump.
Thanks for linking.
I’m glad to see Rand coming around.
I know Paul isn’t perfect, far from it....but he seems to be the only one interested in shaking up things in DC.
You have 2 terrorist immigrants, a Saudi violating his status and an apparent terrorist, the bombers’ friends I believe emigrated, with terrorista” license plate, and even the cab driver they didn’t kill because he “wasn’t an American”.
perhaps just a glimpse of what is all around us?
That's what I need to see from Senator Paul.
I am glad I can agree with Rand again after being dissapointed with him 1-2 weeks ago...
Dear Senator Paul,
We are grateful you took serious our views concerning reform of immigration. But let us understand what it means to “Stop the Immigration Bill Until We Understand Boston”.
Moreover let us agree that the condition “Until We Understand Boston” is translated to indicate until we elect a Tea Party approved conservative Senate that the American people can entrust reform of immigration to.
Thank you,
Your humble subjects.

This follows a previous letter from yesterday:
Dear Senator Paul,
We are sure your heart and mind are in the right place but your TIMING IS OFF.
We are sure that immigration policy and laws need to be reformed BUT NOT NOW.
When we have a Senate controlled by Tea Party approved conservatives THEN WELL TALK.
Now with all due respect to your highnesses in the GOP Senate, GET BUSY AND SUPPORT SARAH PALIN TO ELECT US A CONSERVATIVE SENATE THAT WE CAN ENTRUST WITH IMMIGRATION REFORM.
Sincerely,
Your humble unwashed masses.

‘Refugee status’ asylum (for those dislocated by the ME civil wars) should apply only to mothers and their children under age 10. All other able-bodied men & women should remain to fight for their territory against tyrants and dictators.
It seems to be a common, human trait - sooner or later ‘victims’ who are helped - resent their benefactors/saviors. Some sort of guilt or loss of manhood. The guilt of gratitude turns to hatred.
You can contact his office (paul.senate.gov) be nice. I’m told they do read everything.
Yes I have been in disagreement with Rand’s inital immigration stance. My gut feeling is that he wants to be president and in order to compete with every other GOP wannabe he has to at least pretend he’s for immigration reform. I’d like to see him evolve more on the issue.
Then he’ll just “evolve” right back. I’m not interested in anybody who has to be forced to do the right thing.
