Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform (March 19, 2013 Article)

WASHINGTON — Sen. Rand Paul is calling for conservatives to embrace the cause of immigration reform, outlining a proposal that would grant some form of legal status to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants after the federal government has certified that the border is secure.

Paul’s proposal, outlined in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Tuesday, carefully avoided the term citizenship. Instead, the Kentucky senator said he sought a middle ground that would include a multi-year process of granting visas to undocumented workers that would hinge on the annual verification of the security of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Paul echoed the key finding of an internal review from the Republican National Committee that called for the party to recast its image in order to attract minority voters, saying the GOP must change the perception of the party as anti-immigrant.

Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but “Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration.”

The real question isn't who's posting month old articles, it's

Has Rand changed his position on calling conservatives to embrace immigration reform in the last month?

That’s not going to happen. Rand is a social conservative and a Baptized member of the Episcopalian Church.

You’re making ridiculous statements...

I don’t know why we just can’t enforce the laws on the books. But I agree we need a new immigration policy. One that blocks Islamists from coming here except in very unusual circumstances. One thing about Paul is he is serious about border enforcement, but with the Rats holding the executive branch I have little hope of enforcement ever happening.

How do you know what his plan is?

Wait and see!

He will probably not vote for this bill.

Pay less attention to newspaper articles and pay more attention to voting records and what he actually does.

Some on here like to examine every public statement and scream AMNESTY! when he’s just trying to appeal to hispanics and get the messaging right.

Still carrying the water for Rand even though he is pushing his own brand of Amnesty.

From Merriam-Webster.com; the definition of Amnesty:

Definition of AMNESTY

: the act of an authority (as a government) by which pardon is granted to a large group of individuals.

So, JohnPDuncan, what do you call it when Rand Paul's plan "Normalizes" (i.e. Legalizes) 2 million undocumented Democrats, each and every year, based on the certification by a Congress that the border is secure, given that that Congress is 50% Democrat and 25% RINO both of which groups already believe the border is secure?

What do you call forgiving the punishment involved with committing ID Fraud (Felonies) that most Illegal Aliens have committed?

How about forgiving the misdemeanor of crossing the border illegally?

That's what you call Amnesty.

Just wait and see and have faith.

Doesn't even pass the laugh test.

I pay attention to what Rand Paul has already spoken and written.

Straight from the horses, (JackAss in this case) mouth.

We can’t enforce the laws on the books because the Marxist has power for 4 years and won’t do it.

Rand is going to try and get amendments to this bill to give the border governors more of a say in enforcement and that the report to be voted on by congress which means any normalization can be voted down and rejected at a later date.

He likely wont get the amendments through and he’ll be left with a choice: Endorse and vote for a bad bill or vote against it.

I have faith he isnt going to compromise like McCain and Rubio. He will likely vote against it if he doesn’t like it.

The accusations and screaming of RINO etc. is ludicrous when it comes to Rand and I wish Socon would tone it down.

“No. No new laws. We already have all the laws in place, and nobody enforcing them. What is the point of new laws?”

EXACTLY. Man, these two (Rubio & Rand) make me absolutely CRAZY! And WHAT is with MY Paul Ryan voting FOR the Gun Control Bill?

Am I living in Upside Down World, or am I just a low-info voter and don’t know it? Hard to tell who is on which side of what issue, these days! This should not be so hard!

When *I* run this country, sh!t like this WILL NOT STAND!

I'll tone it down when Rand Paul backs away from rewarding Undocumented Democrats for breaking the law with Citizenship, whether or not it's on the pathway, or immediate.

Until that time, because of the ultimate aims of his plan, he is no better than John McCain.

Same destination, just takes a little longer to get there, the destruction of the USA and the GOP by legalizing 30 million+ Undocumented Democrats.

appeal to hispanics

Hey, where's the *appeal* to Asian and African American's?

Why not appeal to conservatives?

Rand Paul calls for plan to put illegal aliens in a new legal status in which they would become illegal again at any moment the border is declared to be insecure. This makes no sense.

Where are the real leaders of our time?! We are in desperate need!

Not sure. If you find out, please let me know. I'll do likewise.

(Since I'm NOT an attorney, I don't know the answer before I ask the question!)

Wait and see!

What, libetarian pissants can't be honest about their intentions?

They can't tell you up front that they're anti-American?

That they are for open borders?

That they are only conservative until they get elected?

That they are for legalized sex slavery, gay marriage, queers in the military, queers in the Boy Scouts, muslim terrorists running loose all over the USA, a foreign policy that requires America just surrender?

That they are dope smoking, livestock molesting, child molesting, commie infiltrators, just waiting until after they get elected to take off their masks?

Wait and see what? We've seen this all before, too many times.

Didn’t take him long to turn in his “Hero of Free Republic” trophy...for the filibuster.

The same freepers that are so upset about this will be imploring us to vote for Rubio or Jeb in 2016.

Undocumented Democrats get documents Act

That's how Jay Leno was describing the new terminology for illegals this past week.

It's pretty sad state of affairs when even a tinseltown liberal like Leno has this scam figured out better than Rand does.

Socon, Rand is not a treacherous RINO scumbag jackass.

He’s one of the most conservative members of the Senate with perfect scores from FreedomWorks, Club4growth and every other group you can imagine.

There are plenty of politicians you apply that label to but not Rand Paul.

When a bill comes to the Senate he’s going to try and amend it. That’s his job as a senator for the people of Kentucky.

He’s going to try and amend it in the best possible way which can get enough votes to achieve his conservative aims.

His idea is to put a break on normalization and link the trigger to a vote of the congress. That means Congress can reject it if they;re not happy with enforcement.

I doubt he will even get this through and will vote against the bill and will behind the scenes to kill it.

But that’s not what he wants the public, the moderates and the independents and hispanics to hear. He wanrs them to know that the GOP is for immigration reform just not this kind.

How’s this for reform — round up the criminal invaders and toss their collective asses out of the country.

I like.
