Wouldn’t a tranquilizer gun work better? Knock him out, then they could go ahead and approach the boat, turn the lights on, etc.

Crying shame that a 19 year old man would rather choose death than face the legal sys of the US Gov upon life or death!
However the terrorist cell will be safe to be able to fight another day! will be interesting to know if dialog was established or just gun fire!
