I don't think there was a plan but more of a big oh crap moment. I think they were surprised by the release of their pictures and it blew their plans as they had seven or eight IEDs back home. They panicked. Started walking fast and talking and oh crap that cop knows it's us. Bang bang, dead MIT officer. More panic. What have you done. We need to get out of here. Carjack the first likely car and get a little cash. Run. Then the chase and firefight.

IMO They know where he is and know his condition. Today not only kept the people of the community in place, but it also kept all potential cell members in place and gave the FBI time to connect those members by analysis of the social media. When they start moving FBI and State police will gather them up.

Didn’t seem like much of an escape plan last night when the brothers were killing the MIT cop, driving his cruiser, carjacking ... if they really wanted to escape they could have quietly left Boston days ago. Sounds to me more like they wanted to go out in a blaze of glory, but the younger one chickened out.

this is exactly what happened. they figured it was only time before someone recognized them from the FBI presser several hours earlier and felt against the wall and decided to go out big.
I’m wondering now about Beck’s comment that if the govt didn’t admit the truth by monday he would.
