BOSTON (WHDH) -- Photos sent to 7News by a viewer show the scene just before and right after the bombs went off on Boylston Street.
7News has provided these pictures to the FBI as they continue their investigation. They are looking at the pictures to see if it's possible it could be the second bomb.
In the first picture you can see a bag next to a mailbox and up against a barricade along the marathon route. In the second, which we have blurred because it is very graphic, there is no sign of the bag. The viewer who took the pictures says there may be an hour or more between when the first and second pictures were taken.
A different series of pictures sent to 7News by another viewer have been handed over to the FBI as well.
A man took the images from his office above Boylston Street and they show the moments right after one of the explosions.
You can see almost everyone is frozen, a many crouching on the ground, stunned or injured. But one man is acting very differently from everyone else. You can see he is running away from the scene.

Nope. The chairs are all pushed AWAY from the building toward the street. Something even got pushed over the railing toward the street. The barricade is wrapped around the mailbox TOWARD the street.
No way the bomb was at the street next to the mailbox. The blast would have pushed things the other way.
Plus, note the temporary sign on the pole to the right. It moved 180 degrees around the pole. That was not likely from the blast, it indicates that some movement of people has taken place between these two pictures, so it’s not really a great comparison.
But if it was moved by the blast, no way the blast was to the left of the mailbox, because the mailbox would have shielded the pole on the right side of the picture. Note that the temporary parking sign on the left pole is completely gone.
Dogs can’t smell explosives in a Pressure Cooker.
Looks to me like it is bend around the mailbox, as if the bomb was behind the spectators and the blast forced spectators to bend the bar
And note that if the bomb was right there, there’d be no body parts right there, they would have all been blown AWAY from the bomb. That indicates the bomb was behind that location, and blew people forward into the street.
Trash can? I dont think so it looks like a postal storage box not a drop box, that the carriers use to place mail to be delivered.I believe they are all olive drag green.Postal carriers chime in?
This is a photo of the second bomb further up Commonwealth Ave. Not the one at the Finish Line.
my God...look at the little kids up against the rail so close to the bomb in the 1st picture...look at the sneakers in the street on the bottom picture...
Correct my self is postal box not trash can.
Because the guy with the gray hair and the black mid-sleeve shirt is missing half his body.
“Tran the reporter on that Channel 7 news said they had blurred the photo intentionally to block out gore.”
That makes sense. Al Gore is a pretty ugly SOB and I wouldn’t want children to see him on TV.
My problem with that scenario, and I am by no means an expert, is the bent fencing around the mailbox would seem to go against the direction of force.
It seems to me a before and after picture could be very valuable. The idea would be to see who the victims are in the after picture and then locate them in the before picture and look for people around them who would be suspicious.
In this case the couple setting on the curb (the lady is in bright green) have their legs below the knees blurred, apparently due to graphic injuries, are seen in the before picture. Looking at the before picture and over the left shoulder of the lady dressed in green a small lady with sunglasses with her head covered can be seen. Is she a Saudi?
Makes me go um.......!
Words can't describe my disgust...
Exactly.
Most likely the picture was taken BEFORE the backpack was placed there.
The bag in front of the security railing looks like simply a bag of trash. However, the bomber may have figured this was a good place to leave his backpack, leaning it up against the security railing from behind and next to the trash bag.
In order for the security railing to be bent like that around the mailbox, there would need to be people leaning on the railing (as we see in the first photo) and then the bomb backpack placed behind the railing next to the bag of trash. The force of the blast bent the railing around the mailbox, and the weight of the people leaning on the railing resulted in the railing being bent instead of just blown away.
The upshot is that the bomber must have been there after this picture, and therefore there is a good chance he shows up in the various photographs taken in this time period.
You’re bad. Go to your room.
(lol funny, but bad) ;)
Bear in mind what an explosion is: a spherical burst. The idea is, is to direct the expanding force along a desired vector.
Setting the charge on the ground pushes the force upward and laterally. Setting the charge next to a backstop (like the mailbox) further directs the blast.
The only thing remaining is, the actual construction of the device. Think about the old Claymore mines, with the “Front Toward Enemy” label on it. The Claymore is a shape charge, directing the projectiles along one vector.
I’m wondering how the charge in this event was built...
