Moments after clearing the first procedural hurdle, Democrats and gun control groups began readying themselves for a potentially more difficult fight: Weeks of Senate debate defending their carefully crafted legislation against possible amendments particularly a plan to allow gun owners to carry concealed weapons from one state to another that would kill the bills underlying goal.
If previous Senate votes are any guide, the concept of national reciprocity enjoys enough support in the Senate to pass.
The proposal won bipartisan approval in the GOP-controlled House last year with a margin of 272 to 154. And the National Rifle Association, which has successfully lobbied dozens of state legislatures over the years to allow concealed weapons permits, is expected to push for the provisions inclusion in the new legislation.
Congress should recognize that the right to self-defense does not end at state lines, said the NRAs lobbyist, Chris W. Cox, in a statement issued last month when the measure was introduced in the Senate.
Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) described the measure this week as the most pernicious proposal under consideration and said approving the plan would mean that Somebody could come from Wyoming to the big cities of New York or New Haven or Bridgeport and carry a concealed weapon, which is so against our way of life and the needs here in New York.
Senate Democrats are confident that theyll be able to keep the reciprocity proposal from passing, with senior aides believing that some Democrats who previously voted for it will flip their votes. Last year, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) blocked the proposal in the Senate, citing what she said were potential dangers to domestic violence victims and police officers.

How about requiring the exact same background check in order to vote, get welfare, or get an abortion.
hahahaha!
Schumer must have never been to the state of Wyoming.
The streets of New York City are far more dangerous than the streets of Cheyenne. But, then, Wyoming also believe in fighting back when some criminal tries to bother them.
Cheers to your idea! I can hear the heads exploding just having to even think about such a radical idea.
Talk about unintentional irony. It never worries him that he and his POS buddy Bloomturd are incessantly pushing gun control legislation that are against the way of life outside of the sphincter at the end of the Hudson.
Not a chance in Hell that Reid and the Democrats will allow such an amendment.
Repealing Chapter 4 of the GCA of 68, or at least repealling 18 USC 922 (o).
I believe it is part of the base bill.
You can visit Wyoming if you want, but we will carry what we want.
Driving is a privilege and my DL is good in all fifty states. Bearing arms is a right and my carry permit is good in only the issue state and a few others. This is somehow self evident to democrats.
Also, drivers kill way more people than gun owners.
The Repubs still don’t get it. They blabber on and on about principle when it’s “feelings” that make or break a bill — or an election — nowadays.
If I am driving on the highway in eastern PA and accidentally miss an exit and cross over into NJ, I am labeled a criminal. How does this make any sense?

Or run for public office.
Even if such amendments to any “gun control” bills are sure to kill them, I say we submit bills under separate cover that provide:
1. Nationwide reciprocity for CC permits, like we have for
drivers licenses.
2. Background checks in order to hold public office, or vote
or get welfare, or have an abortion.
We should come at them EVERY session until the bills pass.
that would require a forward thinking strategy from Boehner - fat chance
How aboutrequiring the exact same backgrounda check in order to vote, get welfare, or get an abortion.
But actually looking into someones ID or background for those things?
It is too laugh.
Leftists make me sick.
Well, Herr Schumer, your notion of limiting magazine capacity is so against our way of life and the needs here in Wyoming.
Anything that kills the gun bill is a good thing. Obama would veto any good gun bill (repealing laws that infringe on our God-given rights to keep and bear arms), so all gun bills are inherently dangerous with no up side.
