Exclusive: Joseph Farah warns of 'Red Dawn' scenario becoming real-life catastrophe
Have you seen Red Dawn?
I dont mean the old movie starring the late Patrick Swayze.
It was good. But Im talking about the more recent version.
I hesitated watching it for a long time, mainly because I thought the producers of the movie sold out when they opted to substitute a North Korean invasion of the U.S. for what was originally planned as a more likely Chinese invasion.
Supposedly they did so because the Chinese movie market was too lucrative to pass up.
But, having seen it recently, and having followed the news of recent weeks, I think the producers made the right choice.
Watch trailer here:
The new Red Dawn is worth seeing as it comes to pay-per-view and video rental release.
Its not a bad action movie.
But, more than that, the tactic that facilitates a joint North Korean and Russian invasion of the U.S. is the one I would use if I were trying to take down the U.S. quickly and efficiently and inexpensively.
I wont ruin the movie for you by telling you the invaders use what is described in the script as a new weapon.
Its actually not new at all. Its relatively old technology called an electro-magnetic pulse. The power of an EMP attack was first recognized during the Cold War era. Its a power that has the potential to defeat overnight Americas strength technology.
And thats exactly what happens in the new Red Dawn.
If I were the lunatic Kim Jong-un, its how I would use at least one of my nine nuclear weapons in taking down the U.S. something he threatens to do on nearly a daily basis now.
As F. Michael Maloof explains so adeptly

I do have an answer to this... The Koreans have (supposedly) demonstrated that they can get a couple hundred kilogram payload into orbit. That’s only 4% of the 4000 KG needed to cover the U.S. with an EMP event. Since the effect decreases with the square of the distance... Do the math.
In laymen terms, a horse farting on old McDonald’s farm would be about as effective. It would smell bad locally, but not much else.
My background, BTW, is 33 years with HP as an EE, with a first class FCC license.
Wow... that was good thinking! (Now where the heck did I put my zebra striped duct tape????.. if I gotta go.. gotta go in style baby!) ; )
Was it not an ESS station?
I thought the battery backup ended with step switch stations.
; )
I have a very nice 32S-3 75S-3 Collins Station. Superb old Swiss Watch. With incredible mechanical CW filter. And of course a couple of generators just in case.
I even built a home brew PLL synthesizer for it that gave me general coverage. I used it on my Navy MARS frequencies. Operated under that call from 1976-1995.
Dropped out in 1995 when we moved back to TX from OK. Not sure what year they eliminated MARS altogether.
No argument, but I believe you will understand why I will stick original position to take the work of a actual nuclear scientist and study from Los Alamos over your observations. So I guess we agree to disagree.
OK fair enough.
Could China give one to the Norks and let them take the blame?
Yup, some of the old Collins gear had great CW filers.
I love selectable narrow filters...they are a must for QRP. I love QRP :-)
I got the old GRC 9 rigs for 70 dollars each...got the ones marked USED/REPAIRABLE as they are easy to work on. They are quite expensive nowadays.
There was a nice exhibit a while back about the early days of Los Alamos. It was very interesting. Place look like a boy scout camp. very primitive, now some of it is like something out of a James Bond Movie.
So, our radios are better protected today than they were in 1990?
