A few more details have been released about the apparent suicide of Matthew Warren, the 27-year-old son of Pastor Rick Warren, the popular evangelical leader of the Saddleback Valley Community mega-church in Southern California.
The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner's Department has announced Matthew Warren was found dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his home in Mission Viejo, Calif.

The 59-year-old pastor is the author of "The Purpose Driven Life," which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, the church's website says --- making the book the bestselling hardback non-fiction book of all time and the second most-translated book in the world, after the Bible.

A sad situation. I’m sorry for the family and pray for them.
sad. Praying for the Warren Family.
Prayers for Rick and Kay. What an awful thing.
Yes, I am a heartless Mofo.
But I want to know why such a thing happened.
Rick had fallen away from the strict interpretation of the Word (or so I hear).
Wonder what the son's suicide was all about?
Me too. You're in good company.
Drugs or "sexual identity" issues, or both.
Just an educated guess.
I read he had mental illness of some sort
Speaking of life-changing events, this is one that can really strike home.
He suffered from a mental illness for years.
I truly understand this as I have a grandson that suffers terribly with depression and mental illness.
Although I do not agree with Rick Warren’s theology, let’s not blame this sad death on that. My understanding is Matthew was a sweet young man that dealt with deep depression.
Greg Laurie wrote about the years of that depression today on Twitter.
Let’s hold judgement and stop thinking the worst.
They said he struggled with mental illness and depression. That is often enough. Having gone to a funeral for someone who killed himself just yesterday, I feel for his family. I can’t imagine anyone saying anything cruel under these tragic circumstances, no matter how you feel about Rick Warren.
AMEN !!!!!
Did he play football and have a concussion?
If he did.
These are dangerous times.
Sad thing. Prayers to them.
On a side note, as a gun owner and member of the NRA I just know this will end up being my fault somehow.
Thank you for the kind and wise words.
My heart breaks for the family
What is his theology now? I thought his Purpose Driven Life was ok.
Yes. These are dangerous times.
Suicide is the antithesis of the Purpose Driven Life.
Suicide is the ultimate act of selfisheness, all about “me”.
