I'd think it would be #57. We see a lot of New York license plates down here working our natural gas deposits. I wish they would stay home and frack on their side of the border.

I even saw one bumber sticker yesterday that said (are your ready?) . . . .

I see that Washington, DC, with 630,000 citizens, more than Vermont and Wyoming, is not listed. Since they have NO representation in Congress but pay 100% taxes, where should they be listed in this ranking? No taxation without representation is what the Constitution says.

Where does the Constitution say that?

Well since they aren’t a state they don’t go on the state list - maybe there’s another list for territories and possessions ;)

Sadly, one of their measures for “freedom” is legalization of same-sex “marriage”. Would I be correct in calling these rankings libertarian rather than conservative?

What is stopping the DC residents from applying for retrocession and joining Maryland? Those on the Virginia side successfully did so back in 1854.

The answer, as I am sure you know, is that they like the staus quo of sucking up tax money and providing three automatic electoral votes to the Democrat presidential candidate before the polls even close.

Sure, they would like to have two voting senators and a representaive as well. But good luck with 3/4th of the state legislatures going along with that one.

Because Barry said there were 57, and there are still 50, that proves that the United States is still racist...

or something.

By population it should be 4 electoral votes, especially as they pay 100% taxes. I am not sure what tax money you think they are sucking up. It is unlikely that Maryland will want retrocession or that 3/4ths of the State would approve statehood. Thus since all the DC taxpayers pay 100% taxes but only have 2 out of the 5 elected representatives that everyone else has, then just let them pay 2/5ths of the Federal tax. That would be fair.

What an ignorant statement. DC has a lower population than North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Alaska and Delaware, all of which have 3 electoral votes. And, yes, while they pay the same tax rate as the rest of the country which is presumably what you mean by paying 100% taxes, they also have, by far, the greatest ratio of federal dollars received per tax dollar contributed.

Nobody else is even in the same league.

As for me, I would be willing to contribute a dollar or three like the presidential election campaign check-off to the state of Maryland to approve DC's retrocession just so I wouldn't have to listen to any more whining.

They could just move back to The United States. DC has morphed into something that the founding fathers would be appalled at.

I think you are wrong about DC having the greatest ratio of federal dollars received per tax dollar contributed, but will have to research that and get back to you.

According to the site below, in 2005 DC paid $5.55 to the Federal Government for every dollar it got back. This was 2 1/2 times the ratio for New Mexico which got back$2 for every dollar paid in. I don’t have time to look for more recent figures, but don’t think things have changed all that much since 2005.

So far in Florida we can still breathe and go to the toilet without Governmental permission. The Democrat Party continues to fight to require Govermental permission to do both with all their might.
