Thanks to the "The Bible" mini-series that has exposed the story of Jesus' life to the nation, He is getting his own mini-series to come.
The handsome and gracious Jesus in "The Bible" may have altered some viewers' take on the most influential man who has ever walked on earth, and now, with the newfound spotlight, He may appear on the TV screen more often than before...

Errors sure, but at least they are giving us some good wholesome viewing. I think Hollywood has been trying recently with Courageous and other movies that have been released in Hollywood. Of course they have a LONG way to go but at least it is a start.
A Jesus mini-series would have to be awfully good to outdo Zeffirelli’s “Jesus of Nazarath”. That series was awesome with an awesome cast.
One Hollowwood commentary a week or so ago said they (major networks) would not be rushing out more Bible related programs.
I noticed in my TVGuide.com scheduling that National Geographic Channel already has a series on Jesus.

Hollowwood follows the money. Any type programming that makes money gets copies and recopied ad nauseum.
I agree. It is a blessing for us to have noticed those errors. I found myself speaking out loud when they moved away from scripture. Whoa be it to any man who changes one word of this book.
I hope they continue to have these programs about our beautiful Lord and Savior. I watched Esther and it was a good movie. F Murray Abraham played Malachai beautifully.

Agreed. I have enjoyed the series with the errors. It doesn’t replace the Book and perhaps it will inspire some to pick it up... just like a good movie might inspire someone to read the book it was based off of. It makes it easier to read when you have some idea of what is in it.
NatGeo always has programming related to Christ during Holy Week. It is probably just a retread from previous years and nothing new.
Also agreed. It is a dramatization and synopsis and paraphrase and excerptation, with some blending and some mistakes. It is not an attempt of a new translation from the Hebrew and Greek.
I hope to see persons of Christian faith produce many, many more dramatizations of scripture.
The really sad part is they assume that we have NOW been exposed to Jesus due to this series. Like before the show came on none of us had a clue. Maybe it was just a poor choice of words on the writers part. I’ve enjoyed it for what it is warts and all. I didn’t expect they could do or represent everything so kudos for getting it mostly right. (Still waiting for richard burton and liz taylor to make an appearance)
I don’t expect the History Channel to know what a “glaring error” in any show about the Bible. If they were involved they would have had Jesus in a homosexual relationship with the disciple John, since the Bible says “John was the disciple Jesus loved.” And of course there would be the marriage ceremony of Jesus and Mary of Magdalene and the birth of their daughter.
I have watched the entire series so far and find it a decent representation of the Bible stories filmed. I figure this is aimed at those who are not Christian and is to get their interest in Christianity stimulated and to provide a counter to all of the gnostic/secret gospel shows that dominate the History Channel.
The History Channel is just showing it. They had nothing to do with writing or making it. Roma Downey and her husband made it.
If you wish to apply this injunction literally, the entire production should have been in the original languages.
You’d be surprised at how many don’t have a clue... well most have an idea of Jesus, but a large number have no idea what is in the Old Testament or anything about Moses, David or Abraham.

Jesus ENTERS the tomb of Lazarus and breathes into him instead of saying : LAZARUS COME FORTH?

IIRC, the bulk of MORAL Christian films have been released and/or created INDEPENDENTLY of Hollywood producers....Robert Duvall’s “The Apostle” had to be funded by the star, as he could not find a studio willing to greenlight the project.
Same with Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ....and films like Courageous are made by a big Baptist church in Albany Georgia.
I think Walden Media, the studio or production company for the “Narnia” series is the exception.
Nary Magdalene as one of the apostles, traveling around with 12 men? Or was it 13? Did they replace someone or just add her. I didn't count.
If they are to do a Jesus mini-series, I hope they keep closer to the source material. There was to be some filling in the gaps, of course, for instance, anything that Joseph says, but it should be stuff that is inferred in the text or the epistles and not pablum from the past century or so.

In between American Idol and Judge Judy, Hellywood was able to squeeze in some visual information about The Creator Of The Universe.

All this trouble because people argue denominationalism and too many refuse to listen to a man tell them about their sin.
Or perhaps men stopped preaching sin and its consequences.
I count Ninja Samauri Angels and Samson as ‘explaining to the illerate’ in terms they can understand. I agree about Jesus entering Lazarus’ tomb. Nicodemus’ roll in this was, in my view, the normal movie approach to take several minor characters from a book and present them as a single character. At first I had your response, and then realized what was being done. And I noticed, and this I think was the point, that Nicodemus comes to know that Jesus was not talking of an earthly kingship but spiritual and salvational. I also thought it was powerful in how they portrayed Jesus offering the stone in his hand (which is NOT in scripture) to the accusers for the one of them without sin to throw it. However, it was weak on Jesus’ emphasis to the woman that she “sin no more.”
