I’m not all too sure about SHTF Prepper stuff. Some of it seems good to have. Other aspects of the labored preparation and scenario reduction seem strained or just too optimistic. The more elaborate the preparation, it seems to me, the more ways all that can go wrong.
I only know this. If the SHTF does happen, preppers and reasonably prudent people had better damned well be armed in the first place, and damned well better be able to use deadly force in the first instance of trouble. IOW, if you don’t know it, kill it - quickly.
I think a regime of quiet preparation, no advertising, heavily armed and stocked on essentials coupled with a deadly attitude towards intruders or happenstancers would be the order of the day.
Bingo. All the prep in the world does you no good if it's destroyed, or if you're forced away from it.
I'm ready for the "most likely disaster where I stay put" - in my case, a weather event - and I've also given some thought to a backup plan if something really awful like the author experienced happens.
Because Mr. SHTF doesn't care about what you've prepped for, or your good intentions, or even if you have a stomach bug that day. It's cliche, but your best prep happens between your ears.
This is a very interesting glimpse of what life could be like when SHTF. If SHTF. One tip that I am going to follow up on is to order some disposable lighters. Only about $13 for 50 on eBay. And of course, I need more food.
Same here. Armed and ready for sure. The SHTF scenario is actually a series of scenarios, the way I see it. Barring any natural catastrophe, we will probably see a series of financial collapses happen such as Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Japan, etc. (These countries are in fifth gear heading over the cliff) Then subsequent riots. Will they all happen at once?
-Don't think so. With each new collapse, people and markets will get more jittery. THE collapse we will worry about is the one right here in the USA. I could see the stock market here actually surge, because of all the idiots with any money left in those countries will want to park what's left of there wealth in the USA, alas, short lived. In the meantime, better get prepping for a two week (at a time) shortage of stuff. The most crucial of shortages will be gas, ammo, food staples.
For every person who has a "bug out" place to go there are 100,000 of us who don't. I will hang and hold on, like millions. It is the random and the panic that I really worry about.
