SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — Pharmacy giant CVS has told workers in the Bay Area and around the nation to reveal their weight and other health information, or pay extra for health coverage.
The company announced Wednesday what it called “A Plan for Health,” that features a mix of rewards and penalties for employees.
Among the measures, employees must report their weight, body fat, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Workers must also be tobacco free or enroll in an addiction program by next year.

I agree with part of what you say....HOWEVER...I also know that the powers that be (O-care bureaucrats) will decide you MUST take Cholesterol drugs or some other thing, if you are outside of the “normal” range. It would become another tie in to pharmaceuticals that in many cases are UNNEEDED (ie, Niacin is better than Statin for many). Personally, I’d like to see health care decoupled from work....and people made responsible for their health, and INSURANCE, on their own...but, I’m likely dreaming.

Our pharmacy benefit through my husband’s employer requires some prescriptions to go through CVS, if they are to be covered.
The last time I picked up a prescription there, the pharmacist strongly urged me to go online and complete a survey about the quality of service at CVS. He actually showed me what the questions would be and circled what my answers should be, speaking carefully to ensure that a dummy like me could follow what he was saying. It was painful to listen to, but very enlightening about what sort of organization CVS is. I can only assume there was pressure on him to get a certain number of customers to complete the survey.

Big Brother Sees All....
I undergo screening to receive a rather substantial break on my health insurance premium with my employer. As I live a healthy lifestyle, I appreciate the reduced premium. Why should I pay the same premium as someone who smokes like a chimney and doesn’t exercise?
To me it is no different than my car insurance. I am a safe driver with no accidents or violations and I reap the reward of a lower premium there as well.
I can smell the HIPAA lawsuits starting in 10...9....8....7...
If you want to let the company control your health care then you do what the man tells you to do. That’s how slavery works, don’t you know?
I have always negotiated a higher salary by agreeing that I will pay for my own healthcare. I have always quit a job with the peace of mind that I am fully insured - by me.
(At least before ObamaCare. Don’t know if that’s even legal anymore in the Home of the Free...)
I was your average skinny kid, then, I hit puberty and bang, I had a weight problem. I have struggled with it all of my life, and having kids just made it worse. However, even with being overweight, my BP and cholesterol numbers are fine.
I knew an older lady who I would occasionally have coffee with, who was thin and only ate white meat chicken for protein and walked and worked out regularly. She was on two different cholesterol medicines, at the same time, trying to control her cholesterol.
What you look like on the outside does not always compute when you take a blood test and look at the relevant numbers. Just sayin.

No because homosexuals (I don’t call them sodomites because any straight person who has ever engaged in oral sex or anal sex has technically engaged in sodomy) don’t cost health insurance companies that much, compared to the obese.
I am the spouse of a health insurance executive who is chest-deep in the numbers-side of the industry.
Lose weight and long-term health costs go down quite a bit. It’s as simple as that. There’s no debating that fact because it’s true. There aren’t enough gays, as compared to fat people, to make the health insurance industry take notice based on cost of care. There are more than enough fat people.
You never see fat people who are in the 100 year old club. They are always on the skinny side.
Next they will ask if you own a gun. Your rates will skyrocket then.
I was listening to Fox News while running errands and have to say they made this whole situation sound as if each employee has to stand in front of his or her boss and loudly announce all of the details asked. That is not what I read here - it will be private information between the employee who chooses to participate and the insurance company, most likely via a blood test/physical. I can understand your decision not to participate in the health incentives and have to say it is nice to see something given TO those who choose to participate instead of making us pay for something others don’t want to do. You got to make your decision and others can make theirs - sounds like a good situation to me.
You take issue with “sodomites”, because it could refer to straights too, yet you refer to them as “gays”.
Homosexuals? Is that better? How about Non-straights? Same-sexers?
I use the word “homosexual” in polite company, otherwise, usually, “queer”. If what they do ain’t queer, nothing is.
I’m happy we are parting company on friendly terms, I hate arguing.
I wonder if this will lead CVS demanding their pharmacy customers to disclose this information?
