Mitch McConnell Votes to Fund Obamacare
Red State ^ | 3/21/2013 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 03/21/2013 4:23:56 AM PDT by IbJensen

Hey, remember that awesome CPAC speech by Mitch McConnell?

The one where Mitch McConnell said — and I quote — “Obamacare should be repealed root and branch. And we’re not backing down from this fight.”

And the same speech where Mitch McConnell also said, “This law is a disaster, and anybody who thinks we’ve moved beyond it is dead wrong.”

Well, as I told you, Mitch McConnell excels at saying one thing and doing another. Yesterday, Mitch McConnell voted to fund Obamacare.

Hey Utah, he joined Orrin Hatch in doing so. Remember, just last year on the campaign trail Orrin Hatch told you all how he was going to absolutely fight to rid us of Obamacare at all costs. And he got a large portion of the conservative movement to cheer him on as a result.

Yeah, that Orrin Hatch voted to fund Obamacare too.

And now for the punchline — the majority of the Republicans in the Senate voted against funding Obamacare. McConnell and Hatch were in the minority of Republicans who chose to side with the Democrats and fund Obamacare.

Here is the full list of the Republicans who voted for the Ted Cruz amendment to defund Obamacare, but then flipped their votes to actually vote to fund Obamacare : ◾Alexander (R-TN)

◾Barrasso (R-WY)

◾Blunt (R-MO)

◾Boozman (R-AR)

◾Chambliss (R-GA)

◾Coats (R-IN)

◾Cochran (R-MS)

◾Collins (R-ME)

◾Corker (R-TN)

◾Cornyn (R-TX)

◾Hatch (R-UT)

◾Hoeven (R-ND)

◾Isakson (R-GA)

◾Johanns (R-NE)

◾McConnell (R-KY)

◾Murkowski (R-AK)

◾Sessions (R-AL)

◾Shelby (R-AL)

◾Thune (R-SD)

◾Wicker (R-MS)

Evrrything before this year was both sides punting, to see who would win.

If you count the race for the Senate in that assessment, then expect nothing to change. Even in putting together a cohesive national strategy to retake the Senate, the Republicans punted, or as I think, were just too passive and incompetent to do it.

If they couldn't even muster the energy to fight to take the chamber, they will never fight to win a bill.

This generation of Republican leadership cowers from the power they have. It's their nature.

I see that my Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) is among the roll of traitors. No surprise there. He’s another one who talks the talk, but can’t walk the walk.

The times are a changing. I held my nose and went all in for Romney. No way would I pull the lever for these losers now. In talking to my friends, a lot of people feel this way now.

2014 is shaping up to be a bloodbath on the state level for the GOP. Look for a lot of GOP governors to go down. Scott, Martinez, Corbett, Walker, etc.

If the beltway GOP keeps kicking the base it won’t end well in 2014.

Kentucky, take that guy out at the ballot box. Find a conservative to take him on and then to take on Missy Miss

Please people realize we have a one party rule. He deserves to be fired; his lies are common speak to him. We need a new direction. Someone from the TP please convince Palin to go rogue so we all have a voice or to find someone like her (former military officer with a good record that does not scare people) so we have representation.

Just no fight in the beltway GOP. It’s so easy, I could help. How about Boehner’s interview last week...

Presstitute: Do you trust the POTUS?

Boehner: That’s a great question. Let me tell you, I trusted he would deliver a budget as required by law on Feb. 4. Then I trusted him when he said it would be delivered late on March 14th. I trusted him when he said Obamacare would cost $900 billion and not add a dime to our debt, etc. etc.,

Now let me ask you a question Mr. MSM: Do you think I should trust that the 500 people working in the Obama White House Office of (mis)Management and (no)Budget will produce a budget to arrive on April 8th?

That is what we need to see. OFFENSE. Every. Single. Day. Win the day. If they want our votes they need to earn them. It’s no longer good enough just to be not Democrats.

Since you claim not to want a shutdown, but want the GOP to fight for a little while, then cave, i dont see the point.

They should hold up govt business, threaten a shutdown over a repeal that will never happen?

Sorry, that isnt smart.

The point is you force the Dems to face their lies and buffoonery. Get them out of their comfort zone and wait for mistakes.

No more free passes.

Why is the Chairman of the RNC holding a press conference and spouting Dem talking points like how mean the GOP is? That is crazy. That whole election autopsy sideshow was an unbelievable fiasco.

Why is Boehner giving interviews and not hammering Obama for $6 trillion in no debt and no budget. It makes no sense.

The dems get away with murder and we barely get a peep out of the beltway GOP. This lack of communication is a huge part of why they are losing.

The problem is the lack of fight. Being lead from one crisis to the next by the nose.

Well, it's not like these clowns have anything else to be led by...

...they're ALL nothing but a bunch of pathetic eunuchs.

I see Cornyn has left the influence of Cruz and is back to his old “moderate” ways.

From a commenter on this article:

I am so sorry that RedState has characterized a vote for the Continuing Resol. as a vote to fund ObamaCare. This CR does so much more…from funding our entire Dept of Defense, to funding Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Vets programs, etc…It funds the entire Federal Government and all of its programs. Sen. Cruz tried to de-fund ObamaCare. It failed. Should Senators then vote to defeat the entire government funding because they couldn’t defund ObamaCare in this bill? I am guessing it that were the action taken by the entire GOP Senate, that this would be viewed as irresponsible, extreme and unreasonable. I would hope Mr. Erickson and his team could chose better phrasing when sending out fundraising material on the issue of defunding ObamaCare. We need to be more about re-building America than scoring fundraising points (using an inaccurate narritive) on the backs of the GOP leadership. Just a suggestion. keep the faith!

Sorry FRiend, you don’t get it.

The beltway GOP are not credibly opposing the Democrats. The Dems are fighting to win and transform the country. The GOP is fighting to get a deal with a slice of the action. That’s the difference and why they are losing. It’s also the reason they are content being the minority party.

Just one example is no Senate budget for over 3 years. Now Obama is in violation of the budget law. Yet we hear hardly a word from the GOP leadership about it. Compare that to how Bush was pounded about EVERYTHING on a daily basis by Reid & Pelosi. That’s how you win but it takes a lot of work. The current GOP leadership don’t have that revolutionary fight in them.

Cornyn (R-TX)

Corny-n needs to go the way of Hutchison in the next election. What a RINO. We need another Ted Cruz.

I am so sorry that RedState has characterized a vote for the Continuing Resol. as a vote to fund ObamaCare. This CR does so much more…

What it is not is a budget.

The endless stream of continuing resolutions is only there because Senate Democrats refuse to pass a budget and let the regular legislative order proceed to House and Senate reconciliation committees. Democrats don't want their own budget on the table, they're much happier having only the Ryan House budget out there for them to demonize.

And the Republicans seem fine with that, too.
