The dramatic shift in the Republican Party on immigration continued Tuesday, as Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a conservative tea party icon and possible 2016 presidential contender, endorsed an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws that would allow the nation’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants to obtain legalized status. “Immigration will not occur until conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. That’s why I’m here today: to begin that conversation and become part of the solution,” he said in a breakfast speech Tuesday morning before the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington.

Right. There are differences in details between these plans. In any event Paul’s solution does provide a pathway to citizenship for ilegal aliens which you claimed was false.

Well, I agree about them going to light speed.. except that even some of the smarter Democrats are starting to separate themselves from Obama and the D party...

Hopefully, more of them will wake up and see what their party is doing to the country. Sadly, I think the ones that are staying quiet are full fledged commies.

sad that even some who call themselves conservatives just lap onto one issue and then support who ever comes along.

Sad that we have infiltrators coming into our party and then telling us we have to change to suit them and then if we don;t we are caleld stuffy, boring, etc.

Time to tell these non republicans to go to hell and get witht heir own party and stop giving them a platform to spout their agenda which is more inclind to be with the left especially over drugs, homosexuals, marriage, abortion, military, border illegals, etc

even get some of those idiots on here too.
They join , they use the fiscal issue and then tell us we have to change our views on everything else.

Paul is a prime example of this and yet we give him a platform, a convention, a primary and even they come on this site to spout their crap

Rand Paul didn’t mention citizenship. As far as I can tell, he just wants work visas for illegals aliens which will provide them with a legal status.

In reality, that just makes Paul a “useful idiot.” Once illegals aliens have a legal status, the Democrats will, one way or another, create the “Path to Citizenship.” They’re not going to pass up those votes. And, contrary to moronic ‘Pubbie expectations, illegals are NOT “natural conservatives.” They are natural looters - that is how their countries were run, and that is how they will do things if they get the chance.

Also, because the cost of their labor will go up (employers will have to start paying proper taxes on the illegals they’ve been employing under the table, pay scale, etc.), new illegals will cross the border and take their place.

Worst of all, any hint of the passage of such a bill will cause a stampede across our still very unsecured border.

Overall, I’d say Paul is an idiot. I guess they don’t call the GOP “The Stupid Party” for nothing.

Secure, hell, FORTIFY our borders. Then we can discuss the rest. NO “comprehensive” reform - do things one step at a time, in the open.

yea must have been horrible back then when we had the rule of law, people got married then had kids, never used Govt to raise their kids, people spoke English, there was an American dream of doing things right.

Suppose you can look to the future but when you become the only English speaking family in town, when you see your area go to high crime and trash all over, when you have your kids seeing sex in public, druggies on every corner, no rule of law ten you wont move will you because you can tell your kids we are progressive and think we are progressing

yea, they;re the usual line you replied to what I hear from obama, .
Remember when he said the GOP wants to go back to the 80’s foreign policy, the social issues of the 50’s

ER YEA I DO
Divorce hardly exists, hardly no crime, kids being raised by a mother and a father, kids not being able to tell a teacher to f off, America respected in the world, laws enforced, no druggies like we get now, no turd pokers having sex in public like the folsom fair.

Yea you bet I would love to go to that and I wasn;t born back then

agreed, I;m sick of the elitist ignoring us and then giving non republicans a platform to spout their agenda and tell us to change our views.

The only time I hear off by reps is near election time and then I get something every day

The people beating up on you must like the current system of DOING NOTHING, or as I like to put it a DEFACTO AMNESTY on all who enter illegally and are not repeat violent criminals. Since currently only repeat violent criminals are deported, sometimes. We have a badly broken system that allows entry to millions of invaders but G*d forbid a conservative propose a conservative solution! Oh no we can’t allow that! Yup we are not known as the STUPID PARTY for nothing.

It may in fact be that the only way Conservative can appeal to this otherwise natural constituency is to do so under the Democratic banner.

I was being somewhat flippant, but you are right. A conservative Democrat would appeal to them where the same candidate running as a Republican would not. This is also true of a lot of other voter blocks. Union members come to mind. What that means is that real conservatives need to look beyond party labels; especially when Republicans are so willing to run liberals under their banner.

The system is only "brokem" because we are not enforcing our existing laws. We bring in 1.2 million legal immigrants a year--more than the rest of the world combined.

The conservative solution has to do with the Rule of Law. Conferring rights and privileges upon illegal aliens has a corrosive effect on the Rule of Law, the very foundation of our Republic. It is also a slap in the face to legal immigrants who have followed the rules and obeyed the laws. There are millions of immigrants waiting their turn overseas to enter the U.S. legally and approximately 40 million immigrants living in the U.S., most of whom followed the law. Recent polling by Rasmussen has shown that the American people are calling for increased enforcement of our immigration laws.

Rand Paul is proposing a liberal solution. It is almost identical to the McCain-Kennedy amnesty proposal. Since when is amnesty a conservative solution? We tried it in 1986. When you reward something, you get more of it.

And even if this Rand Paul "solution" were to pass, does anyone really trust the Obama administration and the Dems to carry it out? Hell, Obama has already committed what should be an impeachable offense by his backdoor amnesty of granting 1.8 million Dreamers up to the age of 30 legal status and work permits.

Exactly, Why are we being stampeded into amnesty, which is being held hostage to enforcement? Why can't we start enforcing our existing laws now?

Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here, the object of their crime, is amnesty. A path to citizenship is a bonus. Giving them what amounts to green cards entitles them to all the benefits of citizenship except voting. They can receive welfare and entitlement benefits, SSNs, driver's licenses, work permits etc.

Rand IS a member of the stupid party.

President Eisenhower thought he had the problem with illegals corrected when he deported ALL of them. Of course at that time there was only about a million involved, but look what the subsequent lackadaisical attitude has caused.

Paul said “we are not going to deport 12M illegals ... A middle ground might be probation where those who came illegally become legal through a probation period”. So yes this is a path to citizenship.

He is saying the same things Bush, Rubio and others said and got trashed for. No love for any of these politicians but I also have no use for those that are inconsistent in their attacks and somehow want to give Paul a pass. Just different ways of achieving earned amnesty.
