The Mini-Ice Age has Arrived
Theo Spark ^ | March 18, 2013 | Alan Caruba

Climatologists and meteorologists are familiar with the last Mini Ice Age (MIA) that occurred between 1350 and 1850 AD. It is also referred to as the Little Ice Age. Suffice to say it was cold and, as such weather cycles tend to do, it altered history in a variety of ways.

The failure of crops was one aspect of the cold spell and in France the revolution that overthrew the monarchy is attributed to the unhappiness of its citizens, but famine in the northern hemisphere was widespread. In the United States, it is best recalled for the horrid winter our revolutionary war soldiers spent at Valley Forge. At one point during the cycle Americans spent what they called “a year without summer” when the weather remained too cold to plant crops.

Since climate is cyclical, it is not surprising that the MIA followed the Medieval Warm Period, also known as a climate optimum. Crops flourished, empires rose and declined, and neither cycle had a thing to do with so-called greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and everything to do with what was happening on the sun.

As spring arrives in the U.S., there was also a broad band of snow storms that comes with it.

One of the world’s most respected long-term climate forecasters is Piers Corbyn, an astrophysicist whose expertise is relied upon by corporations and others who need to know what the weather will really be as opposed to the criminally false claims about global warming. His website, WeatherAction, is well worth visiting.

I recall just a few years ago that we had a very cold summer. In fact, I specifically recall that the high temp on July 4th was about 60 degrees. The parade was freezing that day. The entire summer that year (2008?) was plain cold and there was nary a comfortable day to get out on the water to go boating.

Here in Virginia, it got all the way up to 35 degrees yesterday. For the next week, the highest expected temperature will be around 45; that’s 10-13 degrees below normal.

It’s the coldest March on record in VA.

We’ve had one of the mildest winters in living memory here. Just a couple of light frosts during the whole season and mostly warm weather above 40’s.............

Tell you what. Here in God’s Country (Northern MN) it was six degrees this morning with a wind chill of -15. About every third day some system comes through and drops 4-6 inches of new global warming for us to shovel.

Minneapolis hasn’t yet had a 40-degree day in calendar 2013, the first time in over thirty years that’s happened.

The spring thaw is definitely late. Understanding that there is a difference between weather and climate, I wouldn’t mind seeing some real global warming and darned soon.

Hmmm, just as I thought, warmer is better, cold is worse.

You are absolutely correct. A consistently slightly warmer winter weans a third growing season for each year.

Add 1/3 more crop production every year in the US and other countries would mean more food every year.

Alas, the economists have been dismissed by the Eco-terrorists because it does not fit the preconceived notions that any change is bad.

Even when there is constant change.

here in mid Michigan, we've only had to shovel snow out of our driveway once this winter and twice last winter. even ten years ago, there were multiple needs for snow shoveling.

You mean, weather is different in different places at different times? Surely you must be a scientific consensus-o-phobe. /s

>>>Nonsense. Call me when glaciers start moving south.

I guess you don't know much about LIA. Glaciers didn't "move south" in LIA...and they won't during this MIA. It was a global decrease in temp averages of b/w 1-3C...which is a really big deal. It's why we have an accurate portrayal of Washington crossing a frozen Delaware River. It's why they were able to have Frost fairs on the frozen Thames river.

It's not a full blow ice age making lakes in MN.

Boy, THAT makes sense!

I tried all winter with heat lamps, phoney "daylight", lots'a water/feed, etc .. and I only got about 15 or 20% production .. except for those few bursts of beautiful weather when they would decide to produce 90 or 100%

(never really DID know how the egg came to be an Easter symbol other than a pagan fertility thing)

I used to argue this ad-nausium with liberals on a liberal site. It would drive them nuts when I asked this simple question: Why is global warming bad, beyond it’s affect on those that are on very low-lying ground on the coasts?

It also drove them nuts when I said a warmer planet is a wetter planet. Or when I mentioned that if antarctica warmed up a but there would be more snowfall and the glaciers would rapidly expand, sucking depth from the ocean. And more of Canada and Russia would be able to grow food crops. And the Sahara might get a bit more damp. Etc.

All they “knew” was that man is bad and all of the masses must be tightly controlled and micro-managed by their rulers - down to controlling the very air they breathe.

I’ll believe it when I actually see it.The sun has been going through a minimal sunspot cycle for the last five years that I have seen reported.

Quite recently I have just read reports from NASA about massive Solar flares or CME’s Occurring so the sun is quite active right now.

What’s really funny is a couple of days ago I read that the earths magnetic field was changing. There was a fear of a Polar Shift.

Like I said I’ll wait to see if it happens.

Look up “interglacial”

The Sun / Earth cycle of 100,000 year “Ice Ages” with 10,000-20,000 year “warm” periods has been repeating for as far back as science can determine.

At the end of previous interglacials, global temperatures dropped 20° C in as many years.

Guess where we are now?

Your time frame (since the 1950’s) is laughably insignificant. ALL Human advancement has occurred during the current interglacial.

Even a “little” ice age will bring widespread famine and resulting wars over the remaining natural resources.

"beyond it’s affect on those that are on very low-lying ground on the coasts?"

Ever notice how there is never any actual measurement of sea levels on any of the coasts? The claims are always 50 to 100 years in the future and always involve "stories" about how terrible it will be when the seas rise.
