First female general to lead Parris Island Marine base says women can handle combat

PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. — The first female Marine Corps general in charge of its tough-as-nails basic training site on Parris Island says she’s confident women in the Corps will be able to handle combat.

Brig. Gen. Loretta Reynolds says the Pentagon’s lifting of the combat exclusion against women earlier this year means commanders will be able to “just use the talent that they have. Just use it where they need it. That’s awesome.”

Reynolds was the first woman to command a Marine base in a combat zone when she was put in charge of Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan in 2010. As head of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force’s headquarters group, she oversaw the base in Helmand province that grew to house 20,000 Marines.

She also commanded a communications battalion in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 in battle-scarred Fallujah.

Political correctness comes to the Marines.

They no longer make Marine generals like they used to!

I feel bad for your daughter having been injured. I hope she gets better. She should be proud of herself for getting that far. A lot of guys don’t even make it that far.

My wife has been a firefighter for more than 10 years, but as I wrote earlier she is a very rare bird. Before that she was a 300 PFTer and WSSI (Water Safety Swimming Instructor) while in the Marines. She can probably bench about 200 pounds! I am stronger than her, but not by much.

As strong as she is, she would only be an average Marine on the physical scale as compared to male Marines. So, there are a few women who could do this, but so few as to make it undoable on any large scale.

Then, there are the social factors of unit cohesion that would be severely damaged by having women in front line positions. I am telling you that if a woman were hurt in combat, she would cause other male members in the unit to focus on her and not completing the mission. That is not a good thing. Marines never leave a man or woman behind, but the inclusion of women combat units would weaken the cohesion of our fighting forces. The same thing would happen with openly gay members, but for different reasons. However, the social experimenters in the DOD, the same people who have ensured that we have never really won a war since WWII, are damn fools if they think these changes are good for fighting effectiveness.

no offense but i would not feel much respect for a female military leader.

**
No offense taken by this woman. It’s simple biology at work telling you not to take orders from women. The left wants to change human nature, but that is the way we are.

When I was 48 I was at PI for a family get together (I was there in the 60s as a dependent - my father’s last duty station).

I went to the top of the rope on the obstacle course with NO feet. And I sure as heck wasn’t fit for combat.

I fear we may well be headed for disastrous military defeat. Our enemies care nothing about our social experimentation. They care only about defeating us in battle — something our current leaders appear to be facilitating.

**
The ultimate goal in all of this is to weaken our military so badly that it is no longer the greatest fighting force in the world. They are removing our best warriors by driving them out or getting them killed so that our armed forces can no longer protect us. America on her knees begging for mercy is one of the prime fantasies of the left.

I suspect that not only do they not think that, but that they don't give a damn.

i might if i believed she rose thru the ranks like any other soldier and such, but that’s not how it is once brass got infatuated with color and sex organs and quotas it’s a dog and pony show, not merit or military needs.

When the war is in the streets of the US, I am sure many women will do just fine.

> Women will eventually go to fight on the frontlines in a war and it will be a massacre. Until then there will be no common sense. The us military is in great danger of becoming the primary tool of the fascists, what with the “retirements” of so many good leaders lately.

It’s as if the “fascists” / liberals live in a fantasy world where everything is possible but completely devoid of reality. I’ve trained in executive protection training, hand to hand combat training, martial arts training, weight training, and cross fit training with males and females throughout my life. I’ve seen what the differences are in regard to fierceness / aggression, strength, agility, and just downright mean-spiritedness in those type situations. The idiot liberals need to stop playing their idiot video games where they are invincible and have superpowers and get out and experience the real world for a change and experience reality. Sure there will be some standout females that are probably former athletes that will fare a lot better than some of their other comrades but on an average it will be a slaughter and the men that try protect the females will be killed many times over in the process.

She won't answer now, but she will be made to answer after we are forced to fight a "real" war, not a drone war of our choosing.

“When I was 48...I went to the top of the rope on the obstacle course with NO feet.”

NOT BAD!

We had a guy in my Basic School class who broke the record for the Single Running of the “O” Course... on his first time through while going for the Double Running Record.

Since we usually ran only the Single, most of us went up the rope hands-alone.

By the time my buddy hit the rope at the end of the Second time through, his arms were shot. Since we never practiced using our feet, it took him forever to get up when he HAD to use them. Otherwise he would own both the Single & Double Running records.

BTW, we called him “Spiderman”, long before the movies came out.

It was 2000 when I was last at PI. We lived on base in 1965. left in July 65 when dad retired.

Place has changed a lot, but our quarters were still there, across the street from the CO’s house.

A favorite story of my mother’s was how she had changed the diapers of a baby that grew up to be the Commandant.

My dad called the USMC the largest fraternity in the world. No more. He must have rolled over in his grave when the estrogen-fest moved into the CO’s quarters.

This portends very bad things for our country.

I went through Basic School in the first company to have a few classes combined with the WM officers. Admin stuff and all that. I think they did one march out to a range at the same time we did.

No one ever expected them to be in combat related positions, let alone combat MOS or billets.

Just before I got out we had the first few WM’s join the squadron.... no, maybe it was AFTER I got out and had stopped by for a visit. I have no recollection of any WM’s at all.

(except for those two cute WM lieutenants sitting in their car while I was “Road Guards Out” when the Platoon was crossing an intersection during Boot Camp. When I fell back into the platoon once we had crossed the intersection, the DI said, “You weren’t taking any ‘eyeball liberty’ there, were you Scribe?” I just grinned. )
