Obama Says Iran One Year From Nuclear Weapon Associated Press
JERUSALEM—Iran is about a year away from developing a nuclear weapon and the U.S. remains committed to doing everything in its power to prevent that from happening, President Barack Obama said in an exclusive interview aired Thursday on Israeli TV.
Just days before he is to arrive in Israel for his first presidential visit, Mr. Obama told Israel's Channel 2 TV that while he still prefers diplomacy over force, but that a nuclear Iran is a "red line" and all options remain on the table to stop it.
"Right now, we think it would take over a year or so for Iran to actually develop a nuclear weapon, but obviously we don't want to cut it too close," he said. "So when I'm consulting with Bibi [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] as I have over the last several years on this issue, my message to him will be the same as before: 'If we can resolve it diplomatically that is a more lasting solution. But if not I continue to keep all options on the table.'"
The timeline for action against Iran has been one of the most fraught disputes in an already tense relationship between Mr. Obama and Mr. Netanyahu. Israel has repeatedly threatened to act militarily should Iran appear to be on the verge of obtaining a bomb, while the U.S. has pushed for more time to allow diplomacy and economic sanctions to run their course.
Mr. Obama's forecast gives more time than that of Mr. Netanyahu, who has signaled that the coming months present a point of no return in dealing with Iran.
The American president nonetheless took a stern tone toward Iran in the half-hour long interview.

Cynically calculated. One year is far enough so in 6 months everyone will forget he said that.
every few months the same old line “one year till iran nuke”. well its been about ten years worth of these “few months” don’t believe any of it anymore. its sole purpose is to fund the military during budget cuts and to give obama an easy out on the economy. War, prepping for war...... all a bunch of lies. If iran couldn’t build a simple nuke after 30+ years of trying then they never will. Muslims are just too backward to do it themselves.

That statement is of course a bit of hyperbole. However it is meant to underscore a few observation. Under Obama the JCOS seem to behave as politically correct careerists out to serve their perceived whims of the current administration. For example the JCOS “recommended” to the Sec of Defense that all combat roles be open to women, or that the Commander of US forces in Afghanistan when confronted with the murder of his troops by their Afghan “allies” comes out with a manual that American soldiers must become more accepting and sensitive to the homosexual practices of Afghans to prevent misunderstandings. These senior generals and admirals seem to be adept politically shooled careerists rather than warriors. The Chinese in the 1990’s developed the best shore to ship missile system in order to keep the Taiwan Strait clear of hostile capital ships in the event of war with the ROC. That has always been a prime objective and strategic concern to China. There is no doubt the Chinese (who despise American presence, influence and meddling in Asia) have been aiding Iran.Iran did not down and capture that drone on its own. Iran has such confidence about its ability to close the Gulf, there is little doubt they have been armed with these missiles. And yes, do not put it passed the arrogance and of the Obama administration to put those ships in harms way. History is full of such ploys and tragic blunders. And yes it would be a bit archaic to expect today’s senior officer careerists to have a few principled resignations before the actual orders sending those ships into the Gulf were tendered. And yes certainly hope these “observations” are all wrong.

Obama said the same thing Chamberlain said, only this year in the SOTU speech. How creepy is that? Was he even thinking about what he was saying . . . ?

He’s lying, as usual. If Zero says that Iran is a year away from having nuke capability... that translates into ....Iran is already there and the US and Israel are in deep stuff right now. But naturally, Zero would want to give Iran a little more time to get that deliverability issue perfected.
Somehow I don’t think Obama will take any serous action until seconds before his City is blown to kingdom come.
Iran will have a nuke. North Korea already has a nuke. obama is hoping for an attack so he can declare martial law and Michelle can start yelling “Let them eat cake!”

Obama is saying “one year”, as if he knows something no one else does, is careful to drop in the line “consulting with Bibi, as I have done for several years on this issue”,
in order to establish that they will both share responsibility for WHATEVER Iran does, when he knows full well what it is that Israel would like to do, to save itself.
The “one-year” framework is basically nothing more than a handy device both to buy time and a comfortable zone for keeping his fingers in the pie, making it look like he’s riding the long, slow wave of “developments” as they issue from Iran, and playing it by his all-hearing ear, like any great leader would be obligated to do.
