Hunters and homeless people in Louisiana are righteously outraged after state health officials forced a homeless shelter to throw out nearly a ton of perfectly good venison.
The meat that had been donated to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission could have fed more than 3,000 people. Instead, it was tossed in trash bins by officials from the Department of Health and Hospitals who say that state law prohibits the serving of venison in homeless shelters.
Not only did the officials toss the meat, they doused it with Clorox to make sure it couldnt be eaten by animals or, presumably, people.
Deer meat is not permitted to be served in a shelter, restaurant or any other public eating establishment in Louisiana, an official told Fox News in an email. While we applaud the good intentions of the hunters who donated this meat, we must protect the people who eat at the Rescue Mission, and we cannot allow a potentially serious health threat to endanger the public.
Richard Campbell, co-founder of Hunters for the Hungry, a charitable group that donates wild game to shelters, said hunters across the state and in Mississippi are outraged about the statement and the waste.
The states health Gestapo got involved after someone at the shelter complained about being fed deer meat, a staple in many countries across the globe and considered by most people to be a treat or a delicacy.

I am not for vandalism, but I think these officials deserve to get their houses egged and maybe raw bit of hamburger meat smeared all over their cars....
This is INSANITY!!!!
“Not only did the officials toss the meat, they doused it with Clorox to make sure it couldnt be eaten by animals or, presumably, people.”
I’m not sure that Clorox would necessarily hurt the meat...
The Great Satan hates charity. Everyone must rely on government, or else..
The liberal agenda of insanity !
Let me remind y’all, this is Piyush Jindals’ administration. All you guv’na Bobby luvers remember this.
“someone at the shelter complained about being fed deer meat”
I don’t mean to sound insensitive here, but if you’re in genuine need and relying on the charity of others (and this is a privately funded shelter), it seems to me you should accept what is served and be grateful to have food in your belly and a roof over your head.
As to amend, Piyush “Bobby” Jindal headed up the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals under Gov. Mike Foster. Go figure.
i remember in the 60's the local game cop would take road kill deer, still warm from just being hit or that he just shot after being hit, to local poor families and they were damn glad that he did
today, he'd lose his job...

I wonder who that idiot was? Some of the best meat in the world, is not good enough for the homeless. What a country.
Some liberal weenie who still carries the scars from the emotional trauma of watching “Bambi” when he was a child.
Chode, how dare you get in between my double post.....Aaaww hell, I fergive ya!
I wouldn’t call deer meat a delicacy, but it will stop the hunger pains.
this was another insane action brought on by too many idiots in a bureaucracy
Many of the game laws in the US prohibiting selling meat from game animals or serving them to the public come from the early 20th century when populations of many game species were seriously depleted. They have little to do with health. There are now more deer in the US than there were when Christopher Columbus discovered America. The laws should be revised to reflect current conditions.
In our county, you get on a list for road kill deer. You need to go immediately to the scene and get it. That is if the driver or his family or friends don’t want it. And the homeless seem to be well fed and fat in America.
Unbelievable
In Virginia, we have Hunters for the Hungry. And you can donate part, or all of a deer. If you take any of the meat, you pay the butcher fee. If you donate the whole animal, you do not pay.
And this Chateau le Blanc ‘ 68 is supposed to be served slightly chilled! This is room temperature!
