However, in Lumberton, Texas, this week, high school girls were made to wear burqas as part of a CSCOPE study of Islam.
One student quoted the teacher as saying, We are going to work to change your perception of Islam.
The teacher in the burqa lesson, according to a student, also said, I do not necessarily agree with this, but I am supposed to teach you that we are not to call these people terrorists anymore, but freedom fighters.
Critics argue that this should not be a teachers role, and are concerned that CSCOPE curriculum appears agenda-driven.
According to a student in the class, the lesson was to teach about the life of women in Islam. The burqa exercise focused on fashion and did not include the fact that to be in public without a burqa in many Muslim countries is punishable by death.
At the end of class, the students were assigned to write a paper about Egypt. According to one student, they were instructed to discuss how Egypt was a good country until democracy took over, and that things were finally corrected when the Muslim brotherhood came into power.

Christianity begins at 2.
I think the Islam end may fire up our side, but it doesn’t help us overall.
There is a LOT MORE to CSCOPE than its coddling of Islam or calling the original Tea Party terrorism. It is basically the COMPLETE REMOVAL of parental and political oversight into what’s being taught to our children, AGAINST STATE LAWS, at least in Texas. It’s being done with OUR TAX MONEY, right under our noses. If we complain about Islam and the Tea Party, they will remove it, but they will keep CSCOPE, which is the real root of the problem.

I just finished watching a show on ETWN about Catholic homeschooling. Towards the end of the program, the guest (a representative of Seton homeschooling curriculum) mentioned that the public schools are probably going to do away with textbooks and most likely, it would probably be difficult for parents to find out what their kids are learning.
I guess she knows what’s going on with Catholic homeschooling and what’s going on in the public schools too.
“In the meantime, teachers are legally required under CSCOPE contracts to teach only CSCOPE lessons, and are not permitted to discuss content with parents and others in the community.”
Is this true? Not to discuss content with parents?
Re: wearing burkhas - how about everyone, boys, girls, and teachers wears burkhas? The ones with a mesh over the eyes? Trip over steps, not be able to see what or who is next to you, carry your things without showing a hand or ankle,
play sports. Let’s do Saudi too - nobody gets to drive for a week. In Texas.
And btw, let’s keep discussions of our comparative sexuality out of social studies class.
Let me give 5 minutes on how things are (or were) done in Texas:
1) The State Constitution provides for an ELECTED State Board of Education that reviews every word of every curriculum proposed for use in this state.
2) The people elected to these posts, believe it or not, are actually conservatives.
3) When they come across something like 2 sentences about George Washington in a history book, but 2 chapters about George Washington Carver in the same book, they speak up and ask for balance.
4) This sends the educators NUTS, and they bitch as loud as they can, to the point that the national media picks it up, calling it the Texas Textbook Wars.
5) But things have been very quiet lately. And that is because the schools found an end-around from this type of review - called CSCOPE. Sure, the reviews continue, but in vain, as virtually all of the schools use CSCOPE.
6) So what is the content of CSCOPE? No one can say, as it is controlled by some nebulous group of people that can change content on a daily basis. For the schools, the ONLY THING that matters is that conservatives in the state no longer have any control over content.
7) It’s that simple. And that’s why I’ve made 5 postings on it, on this thread, so far.
On our local TX news, there have been some schools doing away with this program. Our kids were in elementary school on 9/11 and the news coverage was on in their classrooms all that week. Theirs will be the last generation who will know the truth.
Every moderate Muslim is a potential terrorist. The belief in Islam is like a tank of gasoline. It looks innocuous, until it meets the fire. For a moderate Muslim to become a murderous jihadist, all it takes is a spark of faith.
It is time to put an end to the charade of moderate Islam. There is no such thing as moderate Muslim. Muslims are either jihadists or dormant jihadists moderate, they are not.

What has happened to Texas? A week or so ago the schools were having the students design a new flag for a Socialist country and now they are trying to rationalize burkas. Paging Rick Perry.
It's not just in Texas, and it's not just one teacher.
CSCOPE is an 'under the radar' government indoctrination program that has been inserted into the standard curriculum of public schools around the country.
Read up on it. It's insidious and subversive.
Texas Announces Sweeping Changes to Controversial CSCOPE Education Program
Score a big win for parents rights. On Friday, the state of Texas announced that they had reached an agreement with the Texas Education Service Center Curriculum (TESCCC) that would bring sweeping changes to the very secretive curriculum management system known as CSCOPE.
Back in November of 2012, and based on complaints from parents, teachers, and students, TheBlaze started covering the story about an internal takeover of the Texas Public School education system. According to parents and teachers that we spoke with, the CSCOPE system was causing problems on several levels.
Transparency Parents were not allowed to review the lessons that being taught in school. CSCOPEs parents portal was a very basic outline and contained only sketchy details. Any parent who requested access to the lesson plans was told that they needed to visit the actual school and be directed by a teacher to see the online lessons.
Oppressive and Threatening Conditions Teachers complained that working under the strict guidelines of the CSCOPE program, they were expected to deliver the content verbatim and only on the scheduled days in the lesson plan. If some students were not grasping the lesson, the teachers were directed to move on to the next lesson. Uniformity and sticking to the calendar were stressed over actual learning. Teachers were also asked to sign a contract that would prevent them from revealing what was in the CSCOPE lessons or face civil and criminal penalties.
Lack of State Board of Education Oversight - The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) was virtually shut out of the decision making on CSCOPE. The agreement announced Friday contains several very important points and makes changes to the system immediately. One of the most popular concessions will make many educators happy Teachers will no longer be required to execute the CSCOPE lessons verbatim.
There were other significant changes to the program.
BTW, Texas still has the best economy in the country. I hear no complaints about Rick Perry from Texans...not to say there aren't any ...but we are in as good shape as possible considering Obama does all he can to punish Texas.
Teacher, I had 8 people killed by those TERRORISTS on 9/11... and I'll call them F'ing TERRORISTS!!
freedom Fighters?? What a laugh... they are fighting AGAINST FREEDOM!!!
Yes, we are seeing the convergence of the Left, the Muzzies and the Globalist Fascists against the Christians, Jews and some others.
BUT, this is much bigger than George Soros. I have not been able to get my mind around what “group” is actually behind this. It is bigger than the Builder Burgers.
Ultimately we are facing the ultimate source of evil, the Father-of-Lies. He is who Obozo and the Muzzies serve.
The consolation is, in the end they loose.
Being from PA I can understand your lack of knowledge of the Texas Government. The Texas Constitution specifies how the Texas Education System is structured and operated. Gov. Perry isn’t in the loop.
Now that said I wasn’t that hep on Gov. Perry for President. I think that would have been over his head.
Yeh, and just when everyone paints Texas as a good place to live.
I hope this dip$hit shows em how to wear cute little vest bombs, too, under them berkas.
It appears that we have a group that is focusing on spreading fear about curriculum tool that we use, called C-Scope. Lumberton does not promote Islam, but teaches a world history as defined by the state of Texas objective called the TEKS. Key point. The teacher is a veteran teacher and she is Jewish. Now of all people, if anyone had an agenda to teach the negative aspects of Islam, it might be her. The teacher was teaching about culture and not about a dangerous radical religion .
Question, it more dangerous to teach: Fear and ignorance or educate and understanding.
I have two daughters, and if nothing else, this gives me an opportunity to discuss the negative oppressive nature of the religion, but at the same time, that people thrive on hate and misinformation.

My reply:
Thank you for the reply. If misinformation is indeed out there, perhaps it is you that need to better inform your parents and community. But do not be surprised if the general public still does not agree with your exposing children to Islam.
There is no justification for putting girls in burkas. I am not speaking from "fear and ignorance". I am speaking as a woman who correctly views a burka as a symbol of sex slavery.
