I went to a local gun show yesterday and was just amazed. To begin with the line was extremely long, everyone that I spoke to had the same thought on their mind and that was to spend money at the show....
What amazed me was the price of ammo, I had to pay twice as much for ammo this time then I did back in November. SO here is my thought to the title of this post.
We all have read about the billions of rounds of ammo that the gov't has been buying over the past months. What a better way to limit our ability (or control our guns) than to take away the ammo???? I think this is how they are tipping the scales to control us..... WITHOUT us realizing they are doing it....
I did get mad yesterday when I paid, I asked the clerk if they are paying more for the ammo then before. He smiled and smartly said oh yes sir we are! I have heard from dealers that the costs have gone up a cpl of percent but not 100%! Since the supply is down, the dealers are raping us.... Guess I can't complain too much as that is CAPITALISM at its best!
That is what I have been thinking also....
Retail axiom: Maximize profits whenever possible.
Its not evil. Its just business.
Ammo is expensive because it is in extremely high demand. Some retailers have not raise prices much, but if you order from them, you are going to have to wait several months to get cartridges in hand.
People are preparing for a war.
I did th really world tour this morning also. I got up and left the house by 630 visiting 3 stores. I did also run into 3 people who do this regularly and they knew the timing of every shipment. I was able to buy a little ammo this morning, just not exactly what I wanted.
But I did learn the plan.....
Several companies have done just that. None of the majors though, AFIK.
haha, yep. Status: Out of Stock
Its called “Profiteering”
If you are patient and you want to spend a lot of time running around, you can get some ammo. Knowing the counter person in the store and getting on someone’s text list also helps.
I will occasionally check the stores, but I really don’t have time for it. So, for me, I will place bulk back orders through Cabelas or other online retailers and just wait. My friend, who is a Glock armorer and a neophyte reloader, bought several pallets of 9mm prior to the panic. I thought he was crazy at the time because 9mm was everywhere. I told him that he should have spent that money on 5.56. I guess we were both right.
I got another word for it, but yours is better for polite company. :-)
I don’t have the time either but after yesterday’s gun show, I thought that I would try it this morning.... I like your process of ordering and waiting.
A lot of foul language, but could this be happening?

It’s about replacement costs. They may have paid less for the ammo they are selling than their current profit margin would justify but in order to restock they will have to pay more.
10K rounds is just a little over eighteen (18) “bricks”. One Appleseed session can consume a brick...
The wally world federal 100 box/5.56 is a great deal if you can get around ~$38. My cabelas order was for 1000 rounds of Remington works out to something like $48/100 shipping included. .38/round vs .48/round...worth the difference to me to avoid the aggravation.
.308 is a nice round. Lot’s of punch and availability.
AR10 type is my choice for next major acquisition.
As the fighter pilots say - the only time you have too much ammo (or gas) is when you’re on fire.
I have no doubt that this is happening all the time. Another variation on this employee corruption is store clerks calling friends and family to purchase ammo they know is in stock.. Same thing with Colt AR15s. They probably get a kick back from the resale of said items. Wally World still gets these in, but they never make it to the display case.
Good decision on the switch of calibers
Think out to a year or so from now.
Most of the 7.62x39 is imported Russian or middle eastern mfrs
Think oblamoa would just crank out another EO banning importation of that caliber. Imagine the uproar. Owners of AK’s, SKS’ and their variants would be in a bind for lack of ammo
Tin foil hat off.
Btw I just sold my old Yugo SKS to keep different calibers in NATO styles
For all who are worried about the government stockpiling ammo, it should be of great assurance that the government ignorantly assumes that some minimum wage thug hire, given a gun and ammo, is just as capable as a highly trained and disciplined soldier.
Look at the people who hold the majority of the jobs at DHS.
200,000 of them. In real terms, only those who were LEOs before W. Bush are worth a damn. The rest couldn’t hold down a job as a french fry cook at McDonalds.
So give “Supervisor Tyrone” and his company of “Tyrones” Glock .40s and a thousand rounds of ammo each, and what do you get? They might be able to bully a group of crippled, unarmed retirees, but face them off with serious competition and they will scatter.
There are about 20 million veterans in the US. And a whole heck of a lot of non-veterans who are skilled with guns. And a whole bunch of local and state LEOs who will not play ball with federal thugs, either.
And what about the US military? How many of them are willing to attack Americans, just because some Washington empty suit “ordered” them to?
I am a little concerned about the question of the military? I am confident that the older vets will do the correct thing and uphold their oath. The younger generation and especially the DHS thugs are a different story.. imho....
