CS is tear gas. While its supposedly only an irritant some studies show it causes significant pulmonary, heart, and liver damage.

When burned CS releases phosgene gas. Phosgene is classified as a chemical weapon and is banned by international treaty.

In Waco they killed numerous people because CS tear gas is heavier then air and it displaced all the oxygen in their lungs. One little girl was found bent backwards with her back broken. The muscle spasms caused by the chemical broke her back.

Those of us who were in combat specialties were ordered to visibly inhale much CS gas in a room before we were allowed to exit the room. That was after the room was flooded with the gas, being ordered to take masks off, reseal them, etc. When we were standing outside, our snot and saliva hung to the ground and kept flowing. Then we inhaled it on various training occasions later (fire and maneuver, etc.). The stuff is part of a soldier’s diet. It’s fun to inhale it, until our eyelids are turned inside-out, and run really fast, or to crawl nearly as fast, and to hit targets and the like.
