Conservative author Ann Coulter has strongly responded to PBS's Mark Shields calling her "The Marie Antoinette of the Conservative press corps."
Shields made this remark on PBS's Inside Washington Friday in the middle of a discussion about Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fl.) recent views regarding immigration reform (video follows with transcript and commentary):
Mark Shields Calls Ann Coulter 'The Marie Antoinette of the Conservative Press Corps'
MARK SHIELDS, PBS: Ann Coulter, the Marie Antoinette of the Conservative press corps, has already come out against Marco Rubio saying that all youre doing is creating more Democratic voters with a path to citizenship, just like you did with easy divorce in her judgment.
GORDON PETERSON, HOST: Does she have a point, Colby?
COLBY KING, WASHINGTON POST: I dont, as far as Rubio is concerned? No
PETERSON: Creating more Democratic votes.
KING: They will probably continue to vote Democratic until the Republicans come up with policies that attract their attention.
Coulter responded by email Saturday:
I could write a book about what Mark Shields doesn't know about French history. Wait, I already did! Using his ahistorical cliche, it's the "Marie Antoinettes" who demand that the rest of us support their nannies, maids and gardeners. If illegal aliens competed with rich yuppies, Senators and Washington journalists for jobs (instead of being their underpaid nannies, maids and gardeners), I don't think people like Shields would be so excited about getting more of them here.
Ouch! That'll leave a mark on Mark!
For some background, here's what Coulter wrote about Rubio at the end of January:
The Democrats never change their ideas; they change the voters. For decades, Democrats have been working feverishly to create more Democrats by encouraging divorce (another Democratic voter!), illegitimacy (another Democratic voter!) and Third World immigration (another Democratic voter!).Strangely, some Republicans seem determined to create more Democratic voters, too. That will be the primary result of Sen. Marco Rubio's amnesty plan.
IT'S NOT AMNESTY! Rubio's proponents cry. They seem to think they can bully Republicans the way the Democrats do, by controlling the language.
Rubio's bill is nothing but amnesty. It isn't even "amnesty thinly disguised as border enforcement." This is a wolf in wolf's clothing.
Despite all the blather about how Rubio demands "Enforcement First!" the very first thing his proposal does is make illegal aliens legal. (Don't call them "illegal aliens"!)
Read the whole piece here.
Republicans could give each one a trillion dollars every 5 minutes, and they would still vote for the rats.
I’ve stopped posting photos of Ann to the Coulter threads. That pretty much sums up my feeling towards Ann. The thrill is gone. Really enjoyed her a lot at one time.
What “Conservative Press Corps”?
Conservatives may have a “Press Squad” but nowhere near a “Corps”. Or should I say “Corpse”?
The question is whether other freepers who said they would “never again” support Ann Coulter (after she promoted GOProud and pushed for Chris Christie and Mitt Romney for President) actually follow through on it. We’ll see when her next book comes out. I think Ann is banking on the fact she can say and do whatever she wants, and gullible conservatives will still dole out plenty of money for her “I hate liberals” books and speeches.
After her Obama like trance over Chris Cristie, that was it for me.
Cristie is a Trojan horse.
Sometimes Ann connects; sometimes, it's a swing and a miss. On the Rubio amnesty thing, she connected. As to photos of Ann, I never got that. I've bought several of her books, but IMO she's always looked like a skinny skank.
The thrill’s long gone re: Ann, but she’s absolutely completely right about Rubio and this issue—and Democrats for that matter—on this one.
Ann and Karl make a perfect match. They’re both Democrats in Republican clothing.
Ann pretty much has developed Political Tourette’s Syndrome:
she will say whatever comes into her mind, uncensored.
By now it’s expected of her.
And there's a whole army inside!
She said something onetime many of you disagreed with and now you are like a pack of Hyenas attacking her every chance you get
She released a book this past fall, and I’m pretty sure it didn’t do as well as her others. Right now it’s #8,917 on Amazon’s list.
I have most of her books, but I’m not interested any more. Her hysterical fangirl antics over Christie and her column “Three Cheers for Romneycare” did it for me.
Is she on our side again? lol
Doesn't change the fact that she's right about Rubio's plan.
When you make illegal aliens legal they are not illegal aliens anymore.. and in some/most cases not even ALIENS.. and create the IMPORTATION of grand parents, cousins, Uncles, Aunts.. and those they SAY THEY ARE relatives buy are NOT..
Making the word.. “CITIZEN”.. a joke.. a byword.. a bait and switch scam..
Rubio is starting to look like a poseur.. a shill.. a phoney.. fake.. a MOLE....
A Mole... you know... like John Roberts... the Bush operative.. i.e. Supreme..
Yes, that’s true.
Shields either does not know who Marie Antoinette was or he doesn’t know who Ann Coulter is.
