Here we go with another freak out about a winter storm. From naming it like a hurricane to generate more angst, to the continuing reminders that it "COULD" be a top ten storm in all time history, the weather guessers are doing the hype dance.
Granted, this one looks particularly nasty, but most sane people will grab some extra milk and get home early Friday before the main bands hit.
Take cover NE FReepers and keep us updated on how it's coming along.
Post lots of pics from your yards and neighborhoods so we can all OOOOH and AHHHH at the precip!!
Above all, stay safe, get off the roads early!!
I believe we should name each cloud...a minority name of course. Only then will we be safe.

Cold Weather, Indians, and Firewood. . . .
It’s late fall and the Indians on a remote reservation in South Dakota asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared.
But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, ‘Is the coming winter going to be cold?’ ‘It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,’ the meteorologist at the weather service responded. So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.
A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. ‘Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?’ Yes,’ the man at National Weather Service again replied, ‘it’s going to be a very cold winter.’ The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.
Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again. ‘Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?’ ‘Absolutely,’ the man replied. ‘It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we’ve ever seen.’ ‘How can you be so sure?’ the chief asked.
The weatherman replied, ‘The Indians are collecting a s**tload of firewood’.

As a CNY resident, I agree. My concern is the wind and drifting.
I would imagine tomorrow many schools will be closed.
Obviously this storm is happening because the CO2 percentage in the earths atmosphere has reached 0.04% which is zero point zero. We better watch out or it could get as high as even zero point zero.
That thing looks like the “tune-up from hell on wheels”. Heh. Are those wheels spinning?

I left my SUV running the other day while I went back in the house for a water...
They tend to NOT come ashore ~ but they hug it so close they usually remove most of the beach sand and all the structures and fixtures but those made of steel and concrete.
The Northern storm is, at best, being steered by the jet stream tugging at it, but it's heavy enough to simply be smoozing about ~ caught in some pretty cold, heavy air.
When the Southern storm comes into range it will be whipping lower level winds around at hurricane speed directly at the New York/New England Coast ~ and it will dump just all sorts of snow on everything.
New England deserves a very destructive and nasty 4 foot snow with 60 foot high drifts. They gave us Romney. They voted for Obama. What is there to like about these guys ~ let it snow!!!!

This weather is just plain crazy.....Hurricanes in the late summer / fall....blizzards in the winter.

Says we only had 27 inches of snow in Boston but I remember it was over the cars. I think we already had a foot on the ground when it hit.
