SOUP FOR THE TROOPS

WELCOME TO THE

(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities
Another nice visit with the troops.
How come I don't see as many stars as the one in the night watch photo?
Unless those are in the wee hours of the morning
when I'm normally asleep?

DC METROLAND WEATHER

~ Today...Cloudy. A few sprinkles possible late.
High around 40F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph.

~ Tonight...Cloudy with occasional showers. Low 36F.
Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70%.

Whoa! You guyz in the north & east must really love the snow.
Looks like you'll be getting another round of it.
I think Ma will be happy.
Me? Thanking God that we're getting just rain.

A sprinkle of this...a splash of that...

At a cost of about $1 million,
the first planetarium was opened to the public
on May 10, 1930.
The Adler Planetarium and Astronomical Museum of Chicago
was a present to the city by Max Adler.

Some Chicago firsts...
Ferris Wheel: George W.G. Ferris created
a 264ft "bridge on an axle"
for the Columbian Exposition.
Skyscraper: William Le Baron Jenney
designed the Home Assurance Building
on LaSalle and Adams Streets
around an iron-and-steel frame in 1884.
Lie Detector: Leonarde Keeler, an employee
of the Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory
at Northwestern University,
devised the Keeler Polygraph.
Zipper: Called the "hookless fastener"
when exhibited at the 1893 Columbian Exposition,
the device would be dubbed "zipper" by the B.F. Goodrich Company,
who used it on overshoes.
(for you youngsters out there,
overshoes are rubber shoes/boots worn over your
regular shoes during rain/snow - see below)

A full seven percent of the entire Irish barley crop
goes to the production of Guinness Beer.

An adult lion's roar can be heard up to five miles away,
and warns off intruders or reunites scattered members of the pride.

Root Beer was invented in Biloxi, Mississippi,
in 1898 by Edward Adolf Barq, Sr.

Today I have to post and move into lurker mode.
A crazy situation arose at work yesterday afternoon,
which needs to be resolved today
on top of our regular routine.
Gonna get another cup of coffee
and try to get in a few hellos before I run out of time.

Please stay right where you are.
Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean...
Cause...if you don't...I'll tell Ma!

The FR Canteen is ALWAYS

Come in, sit down.
Grab a cup of joe, or tasty tea.
Mingle a bit, chat with the troops or family member.
There's always plenty of conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS in the FR Canteen.

Well...now you are gone. My “comment” went into cyberspace.

Have a great rest of Thursday. ((HUGS)) Friday and the weekend are just around the corner. We are expecting 2-4” of snow today. Yesterday and overnight we got about 6” at my house.
