The Department of Homeland Security just posted a video called "Options for Consideration Active Shooter Training Video." Its grossly incompetent guidance on how to survive a workplace shooting underscores the Obama administration's total lack of fitness to tell citizens what kind of firearms they can own for self-protection. We should also make sure that as many police as possible see this DHS video, which portrays law enforcement professionals as incompetent buffoons who recklessly endanger their partners and innocent bystanders.
Duck and Cover versus Huddle like Sheep
The DHS video takes a cue from the much-maligned "Duck and Cover" film of the Cold War era by advising people to hide under desks, which would actually be the right thing to do upon seeing the flash of a nuclear bomb. The desk would block the bomb's heat, along with shards of imploded glass. If you were far enough from Ground Zero that the entire building did not collapse on you, you could easily walk away with minor or no injuries while everybody who did not "duck and cover" was ripped apart by flying glass and/or burned to death by the thermal effects. A nuclear bomb will not, however, walk into your school or workplace and look under desks for individual people to kill.
At 1:44 in the video, a woman hides under a desk and pulls a chair after her to conceal her. Note that for every person who agreed with this video, more than ten disapproved, and with good reason. All the shooter has to do is look under the desks to find the people who have followed DHS's advice to huddle there like sheep, and then slaughter them accordingly.

I just took the mandatory “active shooter” course. I skimmed the material and then picked the answers I figured “they” would tell me were correct, no matter how stupid they were, and passed with flying colors.
I confess it did make me think about stuff I hadn’t thought about before.
A CD snapped in half leaves two sharp edges on either end that would slice a throat with minimal effort, and with a banned pistol grip holder to boot. They come 50 rounds to a magazine. Only good for up close and personal bleed-outs though.
This made me think of the training we received as shool aged children.
Teacher: “Students, if a nuclear bomb goes off, get under your desks and close your eyes. Ok, now lets practice that...”

I wish you were kidding, but stupidity is so common in our comfortable consumer society, that I believe you.
But I have known quite a few liberal Christians who think that way. They point to ancient martyrs who died rather than fight the power of Rome or renounce their faith and compare that to dying at the hands of one criminal. They seem to think that dying for Christ is equivalent to dying because some psycho thinks he’s a god.

I said almost the same thing to some friends a few weeks ago. They are types I call “foolish right wing” because they believe that winning a presidential election will somehow reverse the destruction caused by 30 years of the RepubliCrat party.
They were shocked to hear it and one of them said that I scared them. When the S really HTF, there aren’t that many of us who get it enough to be ready to fight on Day One. The rest will be herded towards the death camps as they wait for the cavalry to ride to their rescue—not realizing that THEY were supposed to be the cavalry.
I suppose a would be shooter would never watch this video as a training film?
You sure? These days it seems to me that all you need do is dangle an Obamaphone or a pack of Yaz in front of most of us and we'll follow you into the maw of Hell itself.

Why would they want to? Looking under desks for cowering victims is common sense. This video is designed for complacent idiots who have never considered taking responsibility for their own safety, and its just a placebo to make them think that they can defend themselves with a letter opener so they don’t start demanding to arm themselves at work with a real weapon.

It is my deeply held belief that the only thing that will pull our beloved country back from the brink is the sight of a few elected officials hanging from lamp posts. Sad to say, but spewing rhetoric about “from my cold dead hands” is just so much hot air. Were a few of the most egregious offenders against the U S Constitution to be lynched during their town hall meetings in their districts, the renewed “fear of the Lord God Jehovah and the Continental Congress” might have a salutary effect on their surviving colleagues voting patterns.
Darn, now I’m back on that list for speaking my mind.
