Chris Kyle, Another Brother Lost
I am saddened to have to announce the tragic loss of another one of our own. This has been a hard year for the Special Operations community, perhaps the SEAL community most of all.
Today Chris Kyle was shot and killed at a shooting range at the Rough Creek Lodge in Texas, murdered along with a second individual.
Chris had been volunteering his time to help Marine Corps veterans suffering from PTSD and mentoring them. Part of this process involved taking these veterans to the range where one of them snapped and killed Chris and his neighbor for reasons that remain unknown at this time. The perpetrator then stole Chris’ vehicle in an attempt to escape but we have received word that the police have since arrested him.
Chris Kyle served as a sniper in the US Navy SEALs and is best known to the American public from writing his memoir, “American Sniper.” After his service, Chris ran a training program called The Craft. Although recognized as America’s deadliest sniper, Chris was known to friends as a very down to earth and humble man. He was also a friend of SOFREP and worked closely with Brandon Webb on a recent project of ours.
I just got off the phone with Brandon who is understandably upset over losing another friend not long after laying Glen Doherty to rest a few months ago. The entire SOF community is still in shock over this incident, and we will have more to say on the matter as the situation develops.
Right now it is simply the time to have a moment of silence for Chris Kyle and his friend who was murdered alongside him.

From what I’ve read, Routh wasn’t in the Marine corp’s long enough to have been deployed. Perhaps he went there as a friend of someone else?

Prayers for Chris Kyle and his friend, and their loved ones!

Why did they take a man who obviously had severe PTSD to the shooting range? The only thing I can think of is that he was afraid of guns after a traumatic incident, but he obviously needed intensive therapy. I don’t know what therapist would recommend sending him there, and if that therapist did, I would think the therapist would have ascertained that his mental health was stable enough to go there and would have accompanied him. It’s either a therapist actually thought he was stable enough to go and sent him with these guys or these guys took it upon themselves to try to help him in this manner. Either way, this backfired in a big way.
This man is obviously a hero for his service to this country, and I see he was friends with the Palins. That’s more indication he was a good guy. We lost another good one too young. May he and his neighbor go with God.

WTH? Lots of unanswered questions. We’ll have to wait and hope the answers come out.

Hm. You “made” me write a lengthy response but I decided against posting it. All I can really say is, in the type of PTSD I’m familiar with you don’t strive to desensitize the patient to the trauma, you attempt to re-sensitize them to their core personality as it existed prior to the trauma.
PTSD is nasty. Attempting to desensitize someone suffering from it is like juggling flares in the shallow end of a pool filled with aviation fuel. Sooner, rather than later, someone’s going to get killed.
But there are many other disorders where desensitization is very effective.

The 25-year-old suspect was apprehended about five hours later in Lancaster, southeast of Dallas, more than 70 miles from the scene, Bryant said. The suspect, identified as Eddie Ray Routh, 25, was pursued to a house in Lancaster by officers, including a local SWAT team. Routh again try to flee in a vehicle but was stopped after spikes were laid across a road, Bryant said. "The suspect has been caught and is in custody in Lancaster," the sheriff said. Erath County sheriff's investigators and Texas Rangers were securing a capital murder warrant.Another 20's something male that intersects with Government--ex Marine.
Seal Commander in A'stan commits suicide. Doherty killed in Libya. 30 Seals on Seal Team 6 killed in copter crash in A'stan.
Something is very wrong here. This Administration is capable of anything--it is the biggest collection of Communists, anti-Americans, and thieves ever assembled in DC. And they are creating a pile of cash out of thin air and giving it to all their cronies to advance their country killing agenda.

Not really, even the cops seem baffled. There has been some chatter on the spec ops board about the killer’s girlfriend and the second victim (not Chris Kyle). Love triangle speculation type stuff. Nothing confirmed. May be nothing.

Another incident where a mentally unstable person just starts killing people...
Banning mentally ill people from owning guns is the only gun control legislation I am interested in!
Who the heck thought it was a great idea to hand a weapon to someone mentally unstable as “treatment” ???

"Something is very wrong here." I agree. However, not in a conspiracy mindset. The men who choose the warriors path will always gravitate towards gunfire. Ever since the UBL mission, anyone with a glancing association of the Teams has garnered huge amounts of media attention.
IMHO Naval Special Warfare was honored to be given the mission, but regrets the spotlight it has focused on it's operators.
Prayers for Chris' family.
